I want to get some tires to ride my CX bike in group rides. I'm wondering what size to choose? I can fit up to 32 and probably larger too. Should I just stick w/ 25's or move up?

I have been running 25 on my Crux. The rims are pretty wide and a bear to fit the tires. I'm gonna move up to 28 for the winter and to see if they fit better.

I have an other CX with less wide rims, 23 fit fine on it.

This is a questions that should be answered with at least a dozen more questions. The two most important questions are: Are your cross wheels compatible with your tri bike (or another bike you may own) and do you want to maintain this compatibility? How strong are you as a biker relative to the group or groups you intend to ride with?

If you want to swap wheels between cross and tri bike, stick with 25's (or even 23's if that's all the tri bike will fit.

If you can keep up with the group just fine, want to work your tail off, and/or take the gravel road when presented the opportunity, go with something like a Conti Travel Contact, picture a 37mm wide Gatorskin with an additional layer of depleted uranium and some knobs on the sides. There's roughly a 2 mph difference between the wide bombproof tire and a decent 23 or 25mm roadie. If I had to choose an allarounder it'd be a 28mm.

Do the brakes still work with the wheels you plan to use? Road wheels may be slimmer.

The road tires will likely be no bigger than the CX tires, but will the smaller size you want still work ok with the wheels you'll be using?

My cx bike is disc so I can't swap my wheels around. I'm trying to decide if it would be worth it to get 25's which I think (gotta measure) will fit on my try bike as well or go with 28's? I have no idea if there are even decent road slicks beyond that size and if they are worth it or not. I would want these tires for primarily for pavement so no knobby's :D. I don't want to have to work too hard now.

Both the GP4000s II and GP 4 Seasons come in 28mm. If you want to move the tires back over to your Tri bike, just do 25mm.

2nd set of wheels with narrower rims and go with 25's or 28's. I've got a set with WTB I-19's and running a StradaLLG 28mm, measures out to 30mm.

I like the way you think. I have a set of Starda LLG 28mm on order right now. Those are gonna be my road tire on the CX bike.

TomA recently tested the Strada LGG 25C and it measured .0045 or 42W for a pair @ 40kph or even slower than GP4000s 23c with Butyl tubes.  I'd rather go with a 28c Conti GP4000s but each there own...

Since it's the gravel bike being ridden on the road, top speed and 110% efficiency isn't on the radar.

Doesn't have to be, its simply hard to beat the GP4000s durability and Crr combo.

We are often asked the question, "What size frame should I buy" and the answer is “it depends”. I know that’s not the answer you want to hear, but hopefully the following will shed some more light.
