I usually don't carry my phone when I run. However the wife is being somewhat insistent that I do. I often wonder off onto trails and do not see anyone else. If I carry anything its a Nathan handheld bottle .

So any proven suggestions for holders, I have a Samsung galaxy 4

I see a lot of people with armbands. I tried it but it was very uncomfortable. When it's cold, I wear a windstopper vest with a chest pocket which is perfect to carry my phone. Haven't found a solution for hot weather runs yet.

Search for a running belt on Amazon.  I think that phone is probably too big for any pocket in running shorts.

Edit: er... wait, is it the Galaxy S4 or the Galaxy Note 4?  The first one is smaller.  I ran with an iPhone 5 in my pocket, using De Soto Solana running shorts.  They have a mesh pocket that won't rip.  It's about the same size as the S4.

I use a Nathan hydration backpack. I often run home from work and need I somewhere to keep my keys, cellphone and wallet. I don't bother with the water bladder so there's lots of room for other junk.

I run all year and there's one advantage to running in winter in Canada - winter running clothes have more pockets than summer clothes.

I use a belt from Amphipod that fits my phone and keys in it. Music or podcast is sent from my phone to Bluetooth headphones.

I have a Galaxy S4. I use a cheap Wally World armband to run. My arms are a bit on the bigger side (some muscle, mostly Clyde) and it is not really comfortable or uncomfortable... it's just there. I do have to take it out of it's protective cover as well. I've also been looking at the running belt, or even an old school fanny pack for something different.

Edit: I also use bluetooth headphones

+1 on this one. Doesn't bounce and will hold my iPhone 6 plus with a Lifeproof case.

I run with the Flipbelt - it's terrific - few pockets for phones, keys, goo, etc.

I use a spibelt. It holds my iPhone 5 in an Otterbox case as well as my house/car keys, depending on which I need.

I use one of these:

http://www.amphipod.com/products/hydration/runlite-xtech-2-black

an amphipod belt.  they're modular in that you can add a variety of pouches and bottles to them.  Like Batman!

As suggested above- I also run with a bluetooth headset at times.  Pouch fits my iphone just fine.

If you do go for the amphipod system, two suggestions:

1.  the bottles are more comfortable if you put them horizontal rather than vertical (yes- you can rotate the holders on the belt)

2.  the stock bottle caps are annoying.  they're the standard pop-up to open type- and are rather firm.  they now make the simpler cap that has a little internal flap that auto-seals.  you just squeeze (or suck) on the bottle and the water comes out.  sooooo much nicer.  Thank you Amphipod!

I just got a Flip Belt and it's the BEST thing ever!  Fits my iPhone 6 and is finally a belt solution I don't hate. I wouldn't wear an armband so until now was carrying my phone if needed.  Now I am set for life.

An alternative to the bicep phone holder is the GoCuff. It fits on your wrist so you can easily access your phone. My other option is a Nathan QuickView which combines water bottle and phone case.

This is the belt I use and my S5 active fits the pouch perfectly.  Any bigger though it wouldn't.  I also use a BT headset (Plantronics Backbeat Fit)

I use an arm band, but instead of wearing up on the bicep, i place mine just below my elbow, around the forearm. Much more comfortable for me there. I also enjoy this because I can see my phone at a glance if needed. I usually switch arms halfway through the run, just to keep things even (or maybe because I'm neurotic).

If you plan to do this, make sure the velcro can go tight enough to be secure on your forearm.
