Expert 2852 Pfafftown, NC | Subject: OK, I want a new helmet I want a new helmet. I don't see myself wearing the pointy aero helmet, but the non-pointy ones are fine. I'm leaning towards something like the Giro Air Attacks. I'm pretty sure I can buy one (no shield) on ebay for $100. What else is out there that fits the above bill? Also, if you have a similar helmet, do you wear it on training rides, also? Thanks. |

Kask Infinity was to have tested real well, then Specialized Evade or something else like the LG Course which also did well in testing. |

So, do you want to look fast or ride fast? I have no delusions of grandeur. I'll compete in my AG in local stuff. When I get to a longer course, I'm in it to test myself. So, to answer your question, a helmet I could race and train in that happened to look cool to boot.........but wasn't the fastest.....is OK with me. |

Expert 1194 | Subject: RE: OK, I want a new helmet I'm looking for a new helmet also. I tried on the evade but it didn't seem to fit my head just right, the medium seemed a bit big but the small was a tad too small in a couple of spots. Buying a new helmet shouldn't be this difficult. My noggin is kind of small putting me in between sizes on a lot of helmets. |

Subject: RE: OK, I want a new helmet Is the helmet to replace your training helmet as well? Because if you're avoiding the "pointy helmets" just because of looks...I got news for you. You look just as silly with a Air Attack to the average person because you're already in full spandex. Your helmet choice makes no difference. |

You're asking about what I can buy a new one for. I'm just letting you know what's out there. I'm pretty sure I've seen the shield helmets on Ebay for $129, new.....if you don't mind the color. Non-shield can be bought for $89. If you want to revise your price, I'd be interested. If not, no hard feelings (at all). I appreciate you chiming in. |

You spend a lot of time posting about how to get faster, trainer better, etc., but then decide to give up time by buying a slower/cooler helmet? I don't get it. BOP/MOP/FOP - it doesn't really matter, given the amount of time you invest on this site, I'd invest in a fast(er) helmet. Just my 2 cents. |

Expert 2852 Pfafftown, NC | Subject: RE: OK, I want a new helmet I'm going to hold off just a bit. Bontranger has a new aero helmet (not pointy) that supposedly tested well, also. I appreciate all the help. I'll look into the cost of some of the ones that the article cites. Most of them appear to be really pricey. |

Extreme Veteran 1332 | Subject: RE: OK, I want a new helmet I will both train and race in an aero helmet. Nothing worse than not being used to the helmet you're using race day and trying to deal with the heat or irritation from it's pressure marks when you're used to something with more ventilation and is lighter :p |

Very aero, but looks more like a standard road helmet, and will give you better air flow than most aero helmets. |

While he eventually switched to an aero helmet, he still won several times with his road helmet. |
