Subject: Looking for a "First" marathon in the Baltimore area?

My son is a Navy puke at Bethesda and wants to run a marathon together this spring (2016).  Other than the D.C. RnR, which has mixed reviews, are there any good marathons in the area?  Thanks in advance.  BTW: This will be 'first' marathon for both of us.

Frederick is a good one, about 45 minutes NW of DC, and it's in mid-May so the weather should be OK.

Thanks, Mike.  I'll look into that one.  May sounds better than April.

If "May sounds better than April" for the temps then my suggestion may be going the wrong way... But... The Shamrock Marathon in March in VA Beach is a great first time race.  Super flat, very good community support, it runs partially on base (which may be a draw for a military guy), and they put on an awesome after-party.  Bands, free Yeungling beer, real food, good swag.  I've done that race 3 or 4 times and enjoy it.  You'd likely have to spend the night (about 3.5 hrs from DC) but since its off season you can get a hotel pretty cheap and if you book early you can get one on the beach within a few blocks from the start.

thanks.  Comfy is key, that is the IM set up mantra.  I usually open the aero bars up a bit and relax the stack height a bit for the longer races.  Sprints and Olys I slam the font end and put the aero bars at their narrowest.

Coastal Delaware Running Festival is in April and it will be the 2nd year for this race. From what I have heard, very well run race. Nice flat, scenic course that takes you through beach towns, boardwalk, through a State park and finishes on the beach with beer, beach party, good food and great SWAG. I think this year participants received a nice beach towel with their medal and shirt.

I vacation often in the Dewey Beach/Rehoboth area so I am a little bias because I love the area but the weather should be pretty good around that time and lodging should be pretty easy as well.

I have also heard great things about Shamrock in VA Beach

I signed up for Ironman Frankfurt, next year July - and I am very excited about it. I originally planned to run my first Marathon in the middle of September, but am not sure if this is wise.

I have pedals with the cage and when I ride 2+ hours my legs feel much more tired then if I took out my husband's bike with clipless pedals. Do clipless pedals truly make the difference?

I went into the pool area (as this was a pool swim) and got body marked. That's when it hit me that I was there to race - this was not a clinic.

Is one month enough time to recover from my first marathon to go and do my first olympic tri? My alternative options are to do the 1/2 marathon and then do the olympic.

I started riding this spring with the Carnac shoes on Look pedals (with plenty of float). About five minutes into a ride I get sharp pain on the outer edge of my feet, just behind the pedal.
