Extreme Veteran 429 | Subject: PVC or metal rollers? I'm looking to buy my husband a set of rollers for his birthday. I have it narrowed down to two: This one: http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product_10053_10052_534675_-1___204672 and this one: http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product_10053_10052_173072_-1___204672 I showed them to him and he said ask people who use rollers what they think. So here I am. I'm leaning towards the parabolic one, but the rollers are made of PVC. I'm wondering if that changes the quality at all? He has not used rollers before but has done lots of riding, he'll be using his tri bike on these. Does anyone have any thoughts? They are both highly rated, and both in my budget. I do like that the parabolic one folds up as well, but it's not a deal breaker either way. |

I actually don't know too many people who use rollers(there are a couple on this site), most people use a trainer so there is some resistance when your pedaling. Are you sure he wants rollers and not a trainer? |

Extreme Veteran 429 | Subject: RE: PVC or metal rollers? He definitely wants rollers, we already have two trainers. I think rollers are supposed to help with your pedal stroke and make indoor riding feel a little more realistic. I'm not much of a bike person myself. At any rate thanks for the help, I think I'll just have to make him pick one! |

Regular 233 NW | Subject: RE: PVC or metal rollers? I recommend getting some used Kreitler 4.5" rollers off of Craigslist. They last forever which is one of the reasons you can find used ones in perfect condition. They have flywheel attachments and fan attachments that can be added in the future if he wants more resistance. You can't beat rollers for doing those long steady effort sets. I've been using mine for 6-years with the flywheel attachment without issue. |

Pro 15655 | Subject: RE: PVC or metal rollers? Our rollers are PVC.....can't rmember which ones we have but I'll look. No problems. Riding rollers over a winter will make you a MUCH better bike handler come Spring. |

Member 354 | Subject: RE: PVC or metal rollers? I have PVC parabolics that I bought used five years ago and they work great. I've had to replace the belt, but those aren't supposed to last forever and they are cheap....10 bucks or something like that. As LB said, they will make you a MUCH better tider. 95% of my indoor sessions are on a Kurt Kinetic trainer, but I try to make time for rollers as they have a definite benefit. Even though in my case it's not a resistance workiut, it's still necessary. Sort of like doing slow smooth form sets when swimming. |

I use metal ones but I don't think it would matter. Good choice. more people should ride rollers. |
