When using a 910xt on race day do you put you HR monitor on before the start or in T-1? My old tri watch recorded while swimming, since this one doesn't I didn't know if your not supposed to have it on during the swim. Sorry for the elementary question. Thanks for any input.

For the stock HRM strap that comes with the 910XT, it doesn't matter.  The signal from the HRM band to the watch itself is too weak to go through water, so the 910XT can't record the data being sent by the strap.  So you can put the strap on before the swim, or after the swim in T1.  Personally I just put mine on beforehand, because it doesn't bother me to wear it and it's one less thing to mess with in T1.

Recently Garmin introduced a "HRM Swim" strap that records the data while you are swimming, and transmits it to the watch. It comes with the 920xt these days; I don't know if it's 910xt compatible or what.  If you had one of these you'd probably know it.  You probably have what is called the "premium HRM soft strap", it's what comes with a 910xt bundle.

I put it on before the race.

One less thing to do in transition, less to go wrong mid-race, and less time spent messing with stuff in transition.

Just put it on, get in the water, forget about it.

Thanks. I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't a waterproof issue
