Subject: Brick Question
Hi! New to this forum. Hoping someone can help. I have completed three sprint races during the past year and I want to begin training for an Olympic that is in May 2016. This will be my first Olympic.

While training for sprint triathlons I was doing brick workouts on Saturdays. I want to keep this up in addition to training five other days during the week. I am also crunched for time so I want to try and maximize what I can do.

Does anyone have any good training programs they can recommend that incorporate this style of working out?

Thanks for your help!

Welcome to BT!

I'd suggest a good place to start is taking a look at the training plans available here.  It sounds like you are looking for a plan that allows for 7 'sessions' per week (counting your brick as 2 sessions).  If possible, I'd probably try to alternate which sports are 'bricked' so you can get more sessions of each sport over time.  But we'd really need a lot more information about your current training/fitness level and constraints around available time to suggest more details that might be appropriate for you.

You can do bricks after 2 of your weekday bike workouts.

The training plans here are a good starting point. But if you cant find one you like the make up of I am pretty sure from memory that in the book called "Triathlon Training for Dummies" there is a 20 week Oly plan that is 6 days a week with a brick on a Saturday. you could probably pick this book up reasonably cheep on Amazon if you cant borrow it from a library some where.

While training for my first sprint I tried doing a brick every Saturday on my own plan. I can't say I got great results, but I did survive the race and did better than I estimated. If doing it for fun, I wonder if you don't really need to overthink it with a perfectly engineered plan, just volume while listening to your body so you don't injure yourself. I do plan to try a more formal approach on my next race though.
