Comments:

Paced my friend through his first race and his first full marathon. We started out a bit slow on the first mile so I picked up the pace and dropped down to around 8:10. I could tell by 6-7 he was already struggling to maintain the pace I was setting.

Around mile 8 I was starting to drop him a bit so I dropped back and we kinda played this accordion game for awhile. Took a gel every 45mins and tried to drink water at every aid station. Once we got down to the lake around mile 12 I could tell it was going to be close for him to break 4 hours. We crossed the halfway point at 1:53ish. I told him that we could slow down over a min per mile and still break 4 hours.

Unfortunately he continued to slow, but I stayed with him cause that was the plan. 16 was our first 10min mile at 10:06. 21 ended up being our slowest at 11:56. I was having fun with it at this point so at the "aid stations" they had beer I took one. Continued to run 11+ min miles in to the finish.

Overall I felt really good and didn't have any complaints. I wish we could have run faster because it was difficult running that slow, but I'm happy I ran with my friend and overall we had a good time. Super proud of him.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Beer and walking. Then to Mexican food.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My friend. haha

Event comments:

My third Dallas Full marathon. Probably the 6th or 7th time I've run out there. Unfortunately the course is constantly changing. I miss the old course, but it is what it is. Still a great race that's highly organized.

I signed up for Ironman Frankfurt, next year July - and I am very excited about it. I originally planned to run my first Marathon in the middle of September, but am not sure if this is wise.
