Just wondering if anyone has any experience with buying products from ebay. I have been looking for a deal on the garmin 920xt and on amazon or at a store its 450 or 499 w/hrm. I have found a few on ebay for 380-400 and I want to pull the trigger but I'm kinda nervous because I don't understand how they are selling them cheap. If the seller's ratings look good would you be afraid to buy one on ebay?

Recently there was a more obvious bunch of garmin scams going around on ebay, essentially the items were underpriced, and the feedback was faked by other fake accounts used to do the same thing.

They then went and got a whole bunch of orders, cashed out, and they're gone with the cash by the time people start requesting refunds.

It's always buyer beware, make sure your purchase is covered by the ebay paypal protection, but even if it is, some of the scammers will still get away with the money, and then it's the businesses like ebay/paypal absorbing the cost of the scam, and their costs and prices could potentially go up.

I'm most worried about rewarding scammers, even if I get my $$ back.

So investigate the seller, see how old the feedback is, who is giving the feedback, and make sure your purchase is protected.

Personally I'd pay a little more and/or wait for a sale.

One thing you want to make sure (and decide for yourself if it is worth it) is if the ebay seller is an authorized retailer.  This could impact the validity of your initial warranty.

If you do facebook, check out these two groups "Online Swap Meet" and "Tri 'n Sell It." I prefer buying used that way since you can facebook stalk them first :D. There are still scammers everywhere so make sure you use paypal and don't do friends and family because there is no buyer protection. I've bought and sold lots on there so best of luck.

I've bought a bunch of things on eBay.
The only time I got burned was on a bike frame.
The frame was damaged when it arrived. I asked for my money back, the guy told me where to go.
I told eBay, sent pics, and got my money back and that thrown off off eBay.

Wouldn't you rather put your $$ into you local retailer than give it to a faceless corporation ?

I bought my Fenix 3 (920 but nicer looking for everyday watch) with HRM for $460 last month. It's $100 more at other places. I missed out on the Black Friday deals but I've been eyeing it forever and took the plung. Obviously, buyer beware. I was worried it may be a fake but the seller has sold many before. A lot of the watches are sold from different countries. Make sure you look at that. I went with a US seller. So far so good.

Also have you tried searching a reputable euro site? Merlincycles.com, bike-discount.de, or something similar?
