Who is registered and what distance are you completing?

This will be my first full distance.

I hope it is warmer than last year.

I'll be doing the half.  I did the half in its inaugural year, as well.

I'm hoping the half and full events are better supported than they were that first year--it was abnormally windy, making the day extra long, and the limited support only made it longer. The next day for the shorter distances, I understand the support was much improved, so I am optimistic!

I asked here last year and heard nothing but good things. I know someone who did the half and he also had nothing but good things to say (except for the weather). I know it will not be staffed or attended like an Ironman race. But that's why it's $500 cheaper. I am going to email them about where the aid stations are located. I will let everyone know when I hear back.

I am coming from California for my first half. Nothing magic about why I chose this, t was all scheduling. I could get the time off and it was the distance I wanted to do.

while it is a bit of a trip, I will be seeing family on the trip back so killing two birds, as they say.

Only 28 days away! Two more big bikes and one more big run. Starting to get excited/nervous!

Holy Cow it is this Saturday!

I got an email from the RD stating they were expecting 67 degree water. I don't think it will be that warm. I called last week and it was only 57.

For anyone who has done the half or full in the past, did you check your bike the night before? I have never done this before. Any issues if you did?

I did not check my bike the night before the last time I did the HITS GJ half, but have at other events with no issues.  This particular venue is remote enough that I would not have security concerns, and I am sure they will take security precautions if they are asking/inviting athletes to check bikes the night before. You will have access to your bike on race morning to air your tires and put nutrition on your bike.  It is kind of nice to not have to worry about schlepping your bike from your hotel to the venue on race morning.

I recall the water temps being perfect last time, and it wouldn't surprise me if the temps are close to the 67 predicted if they have had warmer weather on the Western Slope--the reservoir is not terribly deep.

Looks like 60 for the water temp now. All this rain cooled it down. Going to be a cold swim.

Three more days!

I was not an official; I simply observed the race and the officials doing their thing. Here is what I saw:
