Subject: NEw to the Board and Tri World
I started running approx 1 year ago and will run my first sprint tri this weekend. Really nervous. I live near the Wilmington, NC area and am always looking for others to get involved with. Currently using an older Giant road bike, but its so comfortable that I dont mind riding long distance on it. I am already signed up for the HIM here in October and training daily for it. I would really welcome any advise on anything to avoid as a newbie. Thanks in advance.

Welcome,

Wilmington has a great triathlon community. One of a the few places in the state that has a dedicated triathlon store. Lots of people compete in the area.

What sprint tri will you be doing?

I am guessing you are racing Azalea. It was my first race two years ago, and I'm doing it again this year. Looks like it is going to be a nice weekend for it. Relax and have fun. Everyone is really friendly so don't be afraid to chat people up. I met a lot of newbies there, and for a sprint I think it draws a good crowd. They don't close the roads so be careful especially when returning to transition area on the bike.

I am doing the Azalea this weekend. Also, unfortunately, think the Tri store has closed. But we do have a few nice bike shops in the area.

I just bought a slant board (for sit ups) and an adjustable dumbbell bench, as well as a starter set of dumbbells (25’s, 20’s, 15’s and 10’s). Now, I need a good dumbbell workout.

My expectations for the quality of this years’ Triathlon world championship were fulfilled. This was because of the superb location that is like no other along with having the top triathletes present.
