Pre-race routine:

As in years past, I got up at 6:00, had cereal for breakfast, foregoing my usual banana because I knew there would be some at the race site if I wanted one. I left for the race site at 7:00 and was parked by 7:25. I sat in the car until 7:30 and then walked over to the race start area. The race is hosted by Ridgewood Shopping Center which is anchored by Whole Foods (good post race coffee opportunity!).

Comments:

At this event, everyone seems to take the first mile too fast -- excited to work off the turkey before eating it but also it's slightly downhill on the way out.

We entered a hilly neighborhood just before the second mile marker and we stayed there for a mile or so. I tried to stick with the runners in around me going up the hills and that went pretty well considering my lack of hill work.
Post race
Warm down:

I went into Whole Foods and got a cup of coffee! Also they had bagels at the finish.

Event comments:

This is a great race. It is and MS fundraising event and it sells out each year. There were 3100 entries this year in two classes (about 1000 competitive where you get a long sleeve performance shirt and timing chip and about 2100 recreation where you get a cotton t shirt and no timing chip). There is also a kids mile and a kids dash as well as custom division and best hat.

This was my eight straight Ridgewood Turkey Trot. I look forward to doing it again next year!
