Hey, thought I'd introduce myself here first of all. Just started checking out this forum and getting some tips and such. I'm doing my first triathlon tomorrow (Sept 4th), it's the Vancouver Tri and I'm doing the sprint. I'm pretty excited for it. I was primarily a runner but decided to finally make the transition into triathlon. Been training for a while and can't wait to race tomorrow.

So, is anyone else here doing it?

Hey, first of all, welcome, second of all way to go on doing your first race.

Too bad I never seen the thread.

Hope you did great!

Hi there,

I hope the tri went well. I was riding my crusier bike around and I saw the wrap up. Now I've got to go and check the RRs to see if you posted one.

Hey guys, I'm going to the doing a RR soon, but I need time. Here it is in a nutshell:

I got there early to make sure I had plenty of time to set up my stuff, check in and warm up. Starting the race late made me have loads of time. Before the swim I was thinking "What am I getting myself into!" But then the race started and I was off into the water. I started closer to the back and off to the side of the main pack which made my swim really hard. Lots of people and not much room. The only time I got into a good rhythm was passed the second buoy back towards the shore (last 300m).

Came out of the water and quickly ran to get my bike. Wetsuit came off with no problems (few!), didn't want to waste time with socks or cleaning the sand off my feet so it was straight into the cycling shoes and off I went. Started off on the bike feeling really good. Once into it, the only guys that passed me were a few of the top Oly guys and only 1 person passed me going up a hill. That was a huge confidence booster.

Back in the transition area is where I first saw how I was doing. There were only a few other bikes on the rack when I got back in. It was a quick change into the running gear and it was off again. The run felt slow, but I wasn't at all tired or anything. Only 1 person passed me on the run.

Time overall: 1:11:50 and placed 13th (2nd in age group 25-29).
Swim: 13:43
Bike: 36:26
Run: 21:42

I was very happy with the results since it was my first race. There was a lot to learn and I can't wait to improve in my next one!

Hey, thanks guys! (and I mean that in a generic term!!) I'm totally excited for the next events coming up in the spring!

jeng - is that you in your avatar? you a member of team coastal? you know Mike Rhuland? I think that's how you spell it. He was helping put on Delta 5 and a 1/2 and he rides quite a bit. He keeps trying to get me to come out on Saturdays, now that my tri is over I have no more excuses!!

Most likely! And I can assure you, that they smell that way cause they were farmers. Please don't think less of them. We are the best most friendliest people around you know. AND we save the CFL everytime its about to go under. WE own a whole football team you know!!

YEAH, I am from Sasky, Proud of it too!

But, that doesn't say I miss the bloody cold weather at all. Or that I love mountains and they just don't have any there. And the fact that I am now tri'ing and that is not what my family is about.....

Oh, and my wife is Born and Bred in Victoria...One in a million I say!
