Subject: Two piece short sleeved tri suit??
Anyone have any suggestions on which to go with? I'm going to be racing my first 140.6 in a few weeks and would like a two piece with short sleeves on the top. I'm currently looking at the Desoto Riviera, anyone use this one or have another that has proven to be better?
Thanks for any input.

If you are set on two piece, then you can also open up your options to all bike jerseys.  I think you'll find a much better selection as far as fit and features.  There are far more bike jersey manufacturers that have a wide range of materials depending on whether you want something really tight and aero, or maybe more breathable for hotter conditions.

I'm ordering the Riviera sleeved top, today. I'm just checking with Emilio as to which size.

RE: a bike jersey..........I've never seen one I'd swim in, yet.

You would just put it on in T1.  Most people wouldn't prefer to swim 2.4 miles in sleeves anyway.

I have read that tall, or folks with a long torso, really prefer the 2 pc. The guy from zen and the art of triathlon podcast had a show that talked about the one he preferred, if you scan the show notes I am sure you find it with out too much trouble.

FWIW I am tall with a long torso and have been wearing a sleeveless xterra for a few seasons, the size guide was on point and I have a great fit. It is a bit short in the legs but I like that actually. It makes getting the suit off quickly, waay easier.

I have worn a pair of bib shorts with a tri pad in them for at least the last 3 seasons and really love it. The top I have worn is a sleeveless tri-top but I'm thinking a tight-fitting (ie, euro club cut) bike jersey that I have might be in the line-up for at least one race this year. I do agree that most bike jerseys are not cut appropriately for this swim and putting a jersey on in T1 I don't think will work well.

I just saw a 2 XU one piece compression tri-suit with short sleeves at the bike store. Just curious--is that legal for all three events under USAT rules? For some reason I thought you weren't allowed to have sleeves on a suit in a non-wetsuit swim. Really interested in it due to the extreme UV exposure racing in the tropics--it would be great if I could cover my shoulders (the suit has Ice-X fabric, which my sleeveless one has; really helps keep you cool when wet) and I prefer a one-piece for all distances, mostly due to fit issues with tops and shorts. The suit at the store is a men's, but if it was legal and they have a women's model, I would definitely order one for myself as I know my size.

It is, now (as of this year - legal).

I have a brand new sleeved, one-piece suit. For a sprint, it would be fine. It would probably be fine for an OLY. If nature ever called, though......it's gonna take a little while to get out of and back in that thing.

Yay! Checked the site and they do have it for women as well. Will probably order one when I get home this summer, unless I come upon one in Singapore this weekend. Might be a little harder to get out of and into, but I've never had an issue with the sleeveless one piece. I have a small waist, so I have to tie the drawstring of tri shorts quite tight and the knot always becomes crazy tight as soon as it gets wet. It's actually faster for me to get out of a one-piece, especially with a front zip. Getting back into a sleeved suit while wet might be a bit more challenging, though.
