I just ran my first stand alone 10 K. It was snowing and cool but I felt pretty good. I took a day off training yesterday to rest up a bit. I'd like to get right back into training and do a bike tomorrow. Is that too soon?

Yesterday I did my first 10K since knee surgery 2.5 years ago.  I woke up today with a few niggles.....went for a 3 mile walk.  By the time I was done I was pain free.  I like to do something the day after that uses the same muscles/tendons/etc.  I find walking is perfect.

I raced a 10K hard today. Rode my trainer for 45mins easy tonight. Plan on riding outside if nice tomorrow or inside if rainy. Easy for a few days but probably hammering again by Weds.

Depends. What is your body telling you? I usually wait a day or two and then go through a mental check list of how I'm feeling. Sometimes I jump back into training, others i wait another day or two.

Depends on your body. I can run a 10K, go for a 5 mile run later in the day and then hit the bike without too much trouble if I hydrate enough but I'm coming from a marathon running base. If 10K was a stretch, I'd take a rest day, recovery run day, then hit the bike or run. How many miles do you log per week and workout?

Bike or swim is a perfect option for after a hard run.

Like others asked, how challenging was the 10k both in terms of your distance and speed. That context will help us understand what sort of fatigue your body is under. I really like active recovery and so following a hard effort with not moving is really hard for me but walking, biking and swimming at an easy pace really helps with recovery.

Thanks for all the advice. I went out and did an easy hour on the bike. It felt fine.

A number of years ago, I was training for my second ironman. I was planning to crush my previous years time. A couple of months before the main event, I did a half IM and got my best time ever. The next day I was out for a very easy paced 5 km run and I felt fine. The day after that I was doing a much harder 6 km run and really sprinting the last leg. And I pulled something in my hip/glute area. Even though I felt good, I think the major muscles were still too tired and some small stabilizers took on way too much extra load. I could barely hobble a 10k by IM time and walked most of the marathon.

I believe easy, active recovery is a good thing but give yourself plenty of time after a hard effort before hitting it hard again. What's easy or hard is relative to the training you've been doing. Even if you feel fine, after a major race effort ease back into the intensity.

I'm curious about the 'don't increase your run by more than 10% per week' rule. Is there a minimum mileage under which this doesn't apply?

Yes, the Dual is a little heavier than Cervèlo’s high end counterparts. But…the price is within reach of the masses and it still incorporates all of the design features that make a Cervèlo special.
