Just had an awesome multi day run adventure in Big Bend National Park. Lots of canyons, mountains, and HOT DESERT AIR. Normally I chuckle at people with their selfie sticks, but I actually had a total blast strapping my GoPro to the end of my trekking pole:

Now go out and visit the national parks!

Nice video!  There  is no way I could have pulled that off without running into a cactus, twisting my ankle, face planting, or falling off of a cliff.

Did you run into any rattlesnakes out there?

No snakes this time, though I always keep my eyes and ears peeled. The most wildlife I saw was a bunch of jackrabbits. Really had my hopes up that I'd see a mountain lion or at least some bears because supposedly half of park guests encounter them. I talked to a little 5 foot tall, 100 pound girl who had been hiking by herself up in the Chisos mountains and she ran into a family of bears at her remote backcountry site. She was so ferociously hungry (the girl, not the bear) that she actually threw rocks and ran at the bears screaming to scare them off so she could finally eat her dinner. Not for me my friend

Nicely done! What did you use to edit the video?

I used After Effects just because I already use it sometimes for work, but you can use any number of things that are usually free. I think gopro even comes with some kind of editing software.

I'm currently trying a few different options for editing and I am not a fan of Movie Maker. Time to look around, since the cam did not come with software.

Thanks!

That's pretty cool! How'd you like the park overall? We really enjoyed our visit except for the part where I had walking pneumonia that waited until I was going up Emory Peak to reveal itself! I thought I was just getting a cold... I had to give my wife my daypack, I was so winded.

I love Big Bend. Went there last year for the first time and I was so smitten with the variety of the park. It's a combo of mountains, desert, and river. I could stay there for 2 weeks and not get bored. It's not an easy park to get to. The closest airport is still many many hours away which is a blessing and a drag because it take so long to get there but at least the crowds are low.

Bummer about your pneumonia! At least you had one hell of a view. Actually I went to Big Bend again this time because I had planned on going to Guadalupe so I could run to the top of texas but the wildfires shut most of the park down so I bailed. Balmoreah was closed for annual cleaning too. The one frigging week I have to go out there...

I’m a 240lb man, and I run relatively long distances. How would you recommend training for marathon and IM distances as heavy as I am?
