Pre-race routine:

Changed into my running stuff at the house and walked over to the race with Kim and our youngest, Patrick. Picked a good playlist and lined up! Hadn't run "hard" in almost a year, so decided to just pin my HR and see what happened...
Event warmup:

Walked over from house - maybe 1/4 mile.

Comments:

Ran out hard (just sub-7 m/m, I think) and then tried to keep my HR evenly pegged juuuuuust under anaerobic. Very happy to say that I did just that, and was more than happy with the pace that resulted, given my semi-sloth-like fitness currently. See "course" for comments on hills...
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Grab a water and ran back onto course to run Kim across the line (she took third in her AG!), then both ran back to finish with Patrick - who did GREAT! Then there miiiiight have been burgers and ice cream (hey, it's a neighborhood party!).

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing, really. I ran what I was able to, given my training, so I was quite happy with the result.

Event comments:

This was an AWESOME Friday evening in the new 'hood (into which we have aaaaalmost now moved - soon, soon). Great time had by all, I think - certainly by us!

Course: WICKED HILLY! Awesome course. Lots of verts. Downhills were hilarious (I looked like one of those blow up cylinder things you see outside car dealers that wobble up as they inflate and then flail as they deflate - it's my preferred downhill form)

Thousands of spectators lined the shore and bridges overhead. When the announcer said, “Welcome to the best day of your life,” the possibility was still there for all of us.

I went into the pool area (as this was a pool swim) and got body marked. That's when it hit me that I was there to race - this was not a clinic.
