I have a few bucket list items unrelated to time/PR/races - I want to run in all 50 states (28 so far). I'd like to do the BAM (bike across Michigan). What sort of fun bucket list things do you BTers have?

It's not swim/bike/run, but I would really like to do the Snowman Trek in Bhutan. It's supposed to be the "World's Toughest Trek". That kind of thing is like a flame, and I'm the moth! Also, climb Kilimanjaro before all the snows melt. Maybe sometime, do a really, really long bike tour (as in a sizable country or continent--have already done a few small countries and multi-country rides in Europe), if I could find the right people to do it with. And I want to go back to France and do the (whatever it's called in French) that involves going up Mt. Ventoux via all three routes in one day. Long story but I have done the alpine part of it (the final 10 km) twice, on a city cruiser. Climbing is the only thing I do well on a bike. I really want to go back with a proper bike and do it right! There is also something in Italy called Maratona des Dolomiti (or something like that--Dolomites Marathon). It's a bike tour--also on the list.

My friends and I were planning RAAM(4man team) in 2016 (yea 2 weeks away), but that is not happening. I fell apart about 1 1/2 years ago, right about when we had to get serious, sign up and make reservations for stuff. Life got in the way for 2 of them.

Still want to do this one day.

I'm taking the year off from triathlon and just doing masters swim meets this year.

One goal I'd like to accomplish is posting a top 100 time in my age group for each of the events I am going to compete in.

Long Course:

50 Fly, 50 Breast. 50 Back, 50, 100 & 200 Free

Short Course:

50 Fly, 50 Back, 50 & 100 Free, 100 IM.

Not so hard in long course events, since not as many folks do those.  Short course events will be much tougher, especially the freestyle events.

Mark

Here's a good challenge - the Yukon River Quest. It's 715 km (444 miles) in a canoe or kayak race where the sun never sets. There are two mandatory rest stops totally 10 hours where you can sleep but other than that, you're paddling.

100 mile run. I don't know whether for a belt buckle, for my kids to know anything is possible, mental strength, or bragging rights...but I need it. And I think the time is now.

I like kayaking quite a bit (at least in pretty calm water), but unfortunately am not fond of sleep deprivation. I have a disconcerting ability to sleep with my eyes open when tired, and often continue with what I am doing on autopilot. I have done swim warmups in a pool, driven a couple miles (I won't drive early AM now without a big cup of coffee first) and even entered foreign countries, while asleep. That's not a problem until some kind of conscious decision-making is required, then it is! That really doesn't sound like a good mix with being out on the water, or, for that matter, running a 100-mile ultra. My events need to be done by bedtime, or at least include plenty of shut-eye. Also hate cold water, so think I will pass on the Yukon River Quest!

And of course, my really long-term goal--If I manage to make it to 100, I want to set the world age record in both the mile run (or 1500, whatever) and 1500m swim. I actually really liked running the mile but never had the speed to be top level at it, even in high school. Maybe I could just outlive the competition!

My biggest bucket list item will have to wait until after I retire because it will take so long. I want to ride my bike down the length of South America. There is at least one company that does mountain bike tours for the entire length of the Andes. They ride to Machu Pichu and across the Atacama, and see a bunch of awesome stuff. I want to do that.

That might meet my definition of a really, really long bike tour! Which company is this?

Tour d'Afrique is the company that I am looking at, although I saw someone else advertise in a recent copy of Adventure Cycling. They also do the length of Africa, the Silk Road, and across Australia. Lots of interesting stuff. It is basically porn to me.

Sounds fun. A few of my athletic/sport goals in no particular order...

1) Qualify for & run Boston
2) Escape from Alcatraz (the race that is)
3) Complete an IM (don't care which one)
4) Complete the triple crown of hiking (AT, PCT, CDT)

If I do #3 and don't hate that sort of distance, I may try to do enough races to run Kona one day.

Age up into 40-44 in 2017. Looking at the Canadian record list and see 8 records I feel are realistic goals ( SCM 800/1500 Fr, 200 Fly & LCM 400/800/1500 Fr, 200 Fly, 400 I'M).

The tough part is the Freestyle records may be a moving target.

I want to finish my first HIM in the next month. After retirement, which is hopefully in the next 14 months, I would like to take a summer and zigzag the country going to every Major League Baseball park while doing a few sprint / Olympic tris along the way.

I want to hunt a lot more than my work life permits right now (and I hunt a fair amount).

I also want to hit up all the ballparks! My wife just got me a fun map  for that endeavor.

Do another Ironman with no problems happening. Qualify for Kona someday. I know I'm probably capable of it if I could assure the proper training time needed.(work schedule gets in the way). Get a different job. Watch my boys grow up and pursue their dreams, and for them to be hard workers.

Oh and win the lottery... Powerball or Megamillions, none of that small stuff.

Rim2Rim2Rim at the Grand Canyon (tentatively starting to look at May of 2018 if anyone here is interested.... I'm looking for someone to do it with).

100 mile ultra. Eventually Western States 100, but I've got to get a couple under my belt to see if I really want to do this.

Be able to be fit and train in to my 80s (and beyond?)

See my kids grow up to be happy, healthy, productive members of society (I'm sure that is on everyone's bucket list)

I’m a 240lb man, and I run relatively long distances. How would you recommend training for marathon and IM distances as heavy as I am?
