Im swimming the northumberland straight in a couple months and have been encountering one issue while training. I get a bad rash on my neck from the wetsuit after about 4 km. I use sport shield and body glide. they dont seem to last long enough. Anyone swim this kind of distance and have a trick i dont know?

Hi,

The most I have done are 5k swims. The first time I had the most horrendous rash in the back of my neck eventhough I used body glide. I have since used Aquaphor in great quantity! No rash. My friend used it in a 12 mile swim around key west, worked great.

Good luck!

Alicia

Will they have floating aid stations or other stop you could reapply? Small race belt with pouch that would hold a zip lock with more?

Not sure ... most marathon swims are done without a wetsuit. Maybe a thicker type of product ...

Are there any seams exposed on the back of the neck or maybe a bit of the velcro from the neck closure is rubbing a bit?

BTW, I'm jealous you are doing that swim.  I live in PEI and didn't hear about it until it was already sold out.

I've never done a swim that long but I will say that when I did Ironman France a lot of the European athletes had a strip of what looked like athletic tape on the back of their neck. I presume it was to prevent the chaffe. So that's an option.

Honey, great news. I just spent our kids’ college fund on a new bike! The sales guy said it will shave at least 3 seconds off my 40K time. Umm, honey why do you have a knife in your hand???
