Good morning,
Thanks to those of you who recommended trainer road as a way to get stronger on the bike. I just did my initial 20 minute FTP test, which was quite an eye opener (not anywhere near the power I would have guessed). For those of you who are experienced with this program, I wanted some advice on which program or workouts to start with. Just a quick summary of where I'm at - just finished a HIM 2 weeks ago, and next month will start training for a marathon, so I'll be biking 2-3 days along with that program. I do plan on doing an Oly towards the end of August, and a sprint beginning of September, and that will probably be it for tri's for the year.

Thanks in advance.

Alex

You might want to check out the Trainer Road blog or podcast. They give TONS of advice of which of their programs are good for what.

So you can do a base or sweet spot or whatever based on the timing of your next race and how much time you have until your next race.

Try a few different workout to get the feel of them. You can sort and try a few, like tempo or threshold or whatever.

The Sweet Spot Base plans are really good for maintaining and improving a little - I wouldn't recommend going any more intense with marathon training.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm doing an Oly in August, and was looking at the Oly plan to possibly do on days I'm not running to get me through to September. In your opinion, would that be doing too much and hurt my marathon prep?

When's the marathon? How many days running are you doing now and planning out?

Marathon is first week of November. I run three days a week and will continue with that plan throughout.
