Race next weekend. Not able to buy a new pair. (No shops or $$)

Patch ideas? The hole is by the stitching of the chamois. Not a tear, but looks like it has been worn out. About the size of a quarter.

Someone will have some pace booty to stare at if I don't get this patched.

What a ..... Wait for it...... Bummer.

Have you got anything made of Lycra, of a suitable colour? Some glue ( sewing specific available at w-mart etc)? I always have a tube of waterproof adhesive called GOOP . make two patches, one for inner and one for outer. Inner must be smooth to prevent a chafe spot.

Or, needle and thread and simple whip-stitch....

I have repaired several pair using the GOOP & patch method.

I have found that I only need a patch on the inside of the tri/bike shorts. It helps if I make sure the patch material's edge I cut is not ragged & rounded nicely. I used old t-shirts or underwear for the patch. Make sure you spread the GOOP evenly & all the way to the edge of the patch & smooth it out.

Works great, holds up forever - saves a ton of money - it allows me to get 2-4 years out of a pair of shorts rather than just 1-2 seasons. Once I hit 3 patches, I stop. YMMV

Thanks for the GOOP repair idea! I've got a pair of tri shorts that I was about to give up on. In fact, went and bought a new pair, but they are not nearly as comfy as the old ones. So I'll get some GOOP, fix up the oldy but goodies, and try to break the new ones in and have a pair for backup . . .

I have also used the GOOP , spread very thinly, on the leg opening of a fave PR of shorts to prolong the life of the dying leg gripper material...
