water skiing of all effing things. Working on teaching my kids to ski. I learned ~30 years ago. I don't do it all that much anymore since it bothers my knees but I love it. Kids were bugging me to take a turn so I finally jumped in. One run no problem but then "do one ski!" starts. So like a dope I do it. Second cut I go down. No big deal, have probably fallen dozens of times. Except now I'm getting old I guess because I pulled something in my chest. About ten mins after getting home the pain starts. I'm not letting on but pretty sure Mrs Pizzano knows since I wince everytime I move. Getting old SUCKS.

Getting old is not for wimps, that's for sure.  But just because we get older doesn't seem to mean we get any wiser does it.  Any more than getting older means we are going to grow up.  I waterskied when I was a teen as well, but wouldn't do it today - unless my one of my grandkids asked me to .

I bet I know what happened.  You stuck out a forearm to break the fall and the water just ripped your arm upward.  You strained the intercostal muscles.  I've done it too.  It's going to hurt to sneeze for a month.

I still ski pretty often, but I don't go out on the edge like I used to.   I am 64.  After I had two disks in my neck removed, the surgeon thought I probably should not ski.  What he actually said was I shouldn't fall.  He said the same thing for biking.  And, he said I should only run on a treadmill.  I just try to be careful.   We got a new ski boat two years ago.  I guess I am optimistic, or in denial about getting old.

Let's keep having fun.

That's a pretty good guess and close. I went to far when I cut. When I lifted the rope to tighten the slack I forgot how hard it would pull me. I started going down and pulled the rope to try and get my balance. Ski wemt out front, shoulder hit the water. I think it was either the snap of the rope after cut or fighting to stay up. It's a little better today but you're right, sneezing hurts. So does swimming.

It seems that if I swim that slow I begin to sink and I have to either kick or pull harder to compensate while my heart-rate starts going up. I find myself kicking too hard trying to keep afloat.

After a hard workout, I really like having a Coke or Pepsi. How bad is this for recovery and for my health? Should I stop drinking orange juice because it is loaded with (fattening) carbs and sugar?
