Errr....No consistency today, despite my best intentions. Putting the "rain" back in rainy season here. Torrential rain commenced just before 4 PM; I got in the pool at 4:35 (after kids' practice ended) and managed 675m (12:22--wow!) of swimming before nearby lightning strikes joined the show. Pool closed and I somehow made it home through rain so heavy I could barely see; streets flooded with 3-6 inches of water. Just before reaching home, thought I was going to be hit by lightning that struck the top of my building about 10 feet away. I was under a big tree and at first thought it hit me, or the tree! Over 2 1/2 hours of continuous torrential downpour, still some light rain four hours later. You might be able to do OWS out on the street or on our school soccer field tonight.

Planning a run tomorrow AM if flooding subsides; hoping for better pool luck in the afternoon. I try to be consistent but at this time of year Mother Nature often has other ideas.

Taking today off. Ran superfrog 70.3 yesterday. Although I was sick, I went for it.

Swim was almost a 9 min PR @ 38mins and surf was about 8 ft waves going out doing 2 loops, with a run down the beach in between.
Bike was strong at 3hr flat PR by over 30 mins, and I was conserving for the last 6miles.

Now for the Run, this is where the sickness set in. head pounding and coughing constantly, walked most of it. worse run ever at 3hr 6mins
the beach portion was half wet sand and the other half was fluffy thick sand. Very hot too.

I still finished under 7 hrs, so not too much to complain about.

I feel terrible today sick wise, but body feels only a little sore.

Have a good day BT folk,

Day off for me. Yesterday was supposed to be a 90' ride, but it was raining. As I'm not in training now, I decided not to risk a crash.

I will be out of pocket from Thursday to Sunday, so I am strongly considering just making this a total rest week. But, I might go stir crazy . . . decisions, decisions!

Dennis, way to push through, even being sick. Have a great day, everyone!

I feel your pain. That was IM Vietnam 70.3 in 2015 for me. Learned that if fitness is good I can do a decent swim and bike if I am sick, but reality (rubbery legs, non-stop coughing, dry heaves) will hit early on the run. I'm pretty sure that it was the slowest half-marathon I've ever done. Hate to tell you this, but a HIM does not hasten the recovery process from illness; you might be in luck, though, with recovery from the race itself, since you were probably too sick to push the run and truly trash your legs. I ended up sore for two days and sick for two weeks after that one.

I went into the pool area (as this was a pool swim) and got body marked. That's when it hit me that I was there to race - this was not a clinic.

I have been able to swim 200-300 yards without stopping for the past couple of weeks, but this morning I couldn’t swim more than 50. Could not eating make a big differance?

This is not an easy task, especially for the “9-to-5er” with family. But you can do it – all without sacrificing your marriage, job or family.

Once you caught your breath, it occurred to you that finishing even a short triathlon might be harder than you thought. After a few "laps" you thought, "I can't believe I'm so out of shape."
