Overall Rank = 34/154
Age Group = f40-44
Age Group Rank = 3/9
Pre-race routine:

Drove up from CT race morning. Got there really early for good parking.
Event warmup:

Took the bike out for 10 minutes and jogged a bit. The International distance went off at 8 (last wave) and my spring wave didn't go until 8:40 so it was a long wait.
Swim

Comments:

my goal was to go out fast and be aggressive (something I need to get better at so I figured this was a good place to practice). I was happy with my swim.
Transition 1

Bike

Comments:

I got out on the bike and knew I could crush it and that an AG place was mine to lose. This race is small and doesn't really attract the fastest of the fast so it's basically a big ego boost :)

So I just hit it hard and then backed off a little at the end so I'd have some energy for the run.
Transition 2
  • 00m 52s
Run
  • 27m 25s

  • 08m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

I was having a great race.....until a chick with a 41 on her calf passed me like I was standing still with .25mile to go!! I could not catch her.

When I got to the results tent I saw I had gotten 3rd in my AG. That chick who passed me thew down a NINETEEN MINUTE 5K run! And overall she beat me by 1 minute. THINK ABOUT THAT!! LOL She never showed for awards so I didn't get to congratulate her on her great run. Oh well.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around waiting for DH to finish. It was REALLY hot by the time he finished.

Event comments:

Like I said this was a small race put on by the Greenfield Rec department. They've been doing it for a long time so it's well run and a good time. Definitely recommend this race if you like the small races.

Course: 2 loops - 2 little hills but otherwise flat. Well 1 hill isn't little but it's pretty short. They make a big deal out of it but I thought it was ok. Now the International distance had to do 4 loops - that would have driven me nuts.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!
