Checked the race report and there was only one report for this race. Has anyone else raced this before? I am thinking of making it my first Olympic distance race.

I have not done it, but I know the area. A friend of mine did it a couple years ago, he said it was good. He did the 70.3 and he did not like the two transition thing they did, but other than that it is a really nice area.

I did the oly this year. Great race. Swim was among the most enjoyable I've ever done...Delaware river in the the national park...water crystal clear. Swim against the current for a few hundred but then turn around and swim with the current the rest of the way...amazing.

Bike was deceptively hard. There's a few really steep pitches, short hills of 15%...make sure you have some easy gears to climb in. Run mostly on trail, beautiful along the river. I've always loved rev3. Rev3 quassy was my first oly, and I think Poconos would be a great first too. Just be prepared for the short sharp hills on the bike!

Thanks for the responses.

PBT would you say the majority of the swim is with the current? The swim is kind of what worries the most in the Olympic distance. Next season will be my first real season of racing, so I figured this race is towards the end of the summer, so I will have some time to get in some sprint distance and hopefully a decent amount of OWS training. Quassy was your first? I had thought about signing up for that, but I was told its pretty hilly and might not be the best course to try the Olympic distance hahaha.

Also, how much elevation is there generally on the bike course?

raced the olympic this year. half of the swim is upstrean and half is downstream if you go by time. bike is very technical make sure you brakes work. rub is mostly uphill for the first 3 miles then downhill the last 3 I negative split the back half by 3 min. fun race but not a good first time race.

For Pocono oly swim, less than half the swim is into current. It wasn't bad I wouldn't let it scare you away. I could certainly feel I was moving slower than normal going into current, but it's at the start of thr swim so you are fresh for it. I didn't have to fight the current I just swam normal effort. Then turning around you're with the current and it all evened out. My time and level of overall effort at the end was typical for me for an oly. I avg 1:45 per 100 to give you an idea of ability.

Quassy is hilly, but hills arent the worst thing around of you ask me. Sure your time may be a tad slower, but everyone races the same course you're not at a relative disadvantage. But especially on the bike, you can rest your legs on the downhills to recover if u need and manage the ride that way. The quassy run (and Poconos too actually) is very well shaded which is an overlooked quality for run courses.
