I am planning to run my first Iron Man next fall. I've been a marathon runner for several years and wanting to move up to a triathlon. What are some good training plans for beginners?

Lots of plans will get you there. Most important thing is to be consistent. Plans range from 20 weeks to 52 weeks.

But most of those start with at least a base level for all three.

Have you done any distance triathlon?

How's your swimming?

Do you currently run with a heart rate monitor?

Any interest in getting a power meter for your bike?

Swimming 2.4 miles is no joke. If you can make it through that, you should be fine. What race did you/are you signing up for? Open water, ocean swims are another factor to worry about. Fresh water vs salt water. Wetsuit vs non-wetsuit. Mass start, wave start, rolling start. Etc.

I used the training plan in this book for my first race, and felt that it was well-balanced and got me where I needed to be. It also talks you through each phase very well:

https://www.amazon.com/Finish-Ironman-Training-Endurance-Triathlon/d...

Also, there are a few plans in this one that I have mixed with the original plan as I've gone up a bit:

Both very popular, available, and cheap books.
