Subject: Skewer Question
So I got a new Felt B2 bike and brought it to be fitted for it (by a professional bike fitter). He was appalled that I was using the standard rear skewer on my cyclops trainer. Did some reading and I guess the stock one has a plastic end that can break on the trainer, so everyone buys a different skewer for their trainer and swaps between them for racing vs trainer.

Spent $12, bought a new steel one on Amazon. It probably weighs about .001 oz more than the stock one. Why bother to change this out for racing? What am I missing?

short answer, no reason you can't run the steel skewer 100% of the time.

The reasons not to run it are primarily aesthetics and in poor weather (steel might corrode, at least eventually)

You can most definitely use the steel skewer all the time, but it will rust eventually... and since it takes less than 30 sec to replace a skewer, I'd just go ahead and do that.

Interesting. Didn't think about the rust factor. Ok. You sold me. Worth changing out.
