Stay safe, Nicole! I will be down in TX next weekend. Glad this hurricane isn't hitting then!

Did my first bike ride this morning. Not sure how I feel about it. Did figure 8s around a park so it was super boring. Did 9 miles at about 14.1mph average. The hills were killing me in this park. It will be good to compare future rides though that I do here. It's just a few blocks from my house and doesn't involve me riding on city roads or having to drive somewhere just to bike, so I like it for that. Gonna try to do another ride on Sunday. Masters practice tomorrow!

Rather killing (note, not killer) long ride today. 4:15 of self doubt and hard riding. It just wasn't there today, probably because I did a speed workout run and lifted weights yesterday afternoon. Legs felt tired and this ride absolutely drained me. After a quick bite I tried a brick run. A brink run that quickly turned into a pained walk due to that quick bite. Guess I learned that eating before running lesson...again! I was just so hungry!!!

Oh well, in the books. I'm not going to let this get me down. I have recovery to focus on!! Long run tomorrow!

Eight mile run followed by an hour high cadence spin this morning (bleeding into afternoon). That concludes the first "perfect" training week for me in a few weeks (3?), perfect meaning I did all scheduled workouts. Some were ugly. Some were good. Some were just done. Now I'm off to "rest" on the lawnmower. HIM training doesn't leave a lot of time for the normal household chores.

Gretchen - great attitude to not let the bad workout get you down. They're not all gonna be good. Can't let it bother ya.

Nicole - how did you make out with the hurricane?

Mike - yeah I've been trying all that stuff you mention except a new fit yet. I was gonna go for one because as my race got closer I did get more and more uncomfortable, so I do think my position changed for any of those reasons you mention. But I'm holding off on a new fit for now until I can ride seamlessly first, so I can get fit into the right position from the get go not a position in which I'm compensating for something. Also considering getting a tri bike so I would like to save the dough for fitting on that if it happens. The doc did refer me to a specialist but can't be seen until Oct 22...so for now it's swimming and running and every week or so I'll try to get back on the trainer and see if I get any better.

Did our usual open water swim workout Saturday morning. Circuit day which is in and out of the water multiple times with shorter harder efforts swimming and then running on sand in between. Love my Saturday mornings.

Yoga and core Sat afternoon.

Today is promised beach day with the kids so not sure I'll have energy to run after but we shall see. That's the beauty of no plan right now, no pressure to get up early and get it in first or to change the rest of my day around. If it happens it happens!

Matt--that Saturday morning workout sounds awesome!! I wish I could find a consistent group to OWS with. Ours is supposed to be on Monday night at 6, but there are so many people who flake every week it often gets canceled.

1700m this morning in the pool, mostly sets of 50s descending. Last few sets were all hard. Followed that up with 45 minutes of spinning my wheels with the gym admin staff in trying to switch lockers so a friend can have her locker and her daughter's locker right next to each other. Do I get to count that as a workout?!?!?! It was such a hassle for such a small thing, and after 45 minutes, it still isn't done! I had to go up two levels of managers and it still isn't done! So frustrating!

Well, it probably got your heart rate up a bit, right?

45 minutes on the trainer this morning, swim this afternoon.  I'm switching my training schedule around now that school is about to start and so is my daughter's swim practice.  About to start some light jogging soon, seven months past surgery.  Going to start REALLY slow and easy and go from there.

Even without spending money on a fit, you could tweak yours around.  I've been playing around with mine for years.  Sometimes your seat will move a little, too, without you noticing it (especially if you have a carbon seatpost).

Or you could just buy the tri bike and go from there.

Had a good Masters practice Saturday. Probably did about 2500 yds, including some breaststroke and butterfly drills, and a tough freestyle/breaststroke set. Felt pretty good although definitely died a bit.

It's beautiful in Baltimore today. Might try to get a run in this afternoon, but if not I will run tomorrow for sure.

Also, I promise I won't give any spoilers but anyone watch GoT? HOLY CRAP last night was a crazy episode. I can't believe we have to wait another year for the end!

NIcole--no GOT spoilers!!!!!!!!! We have to wait for it to come out on DVD, cause I'm totally too cheap to pay for HBO!

Bummed last night. My aero helmet arrived in the mail yesterday and it has a manufacturing defect! There is a 1/2" piece of plastic extending out from the underside of the pointy end on one side. The other side is flush. So, back it goes. I already ordered another one and have this one all packed up to go back to UPS. It is just disappointing.

ST this morning for me before my class. Later this afternoon will be a 45/30' brick in Z2. Yesterday's speedwork run killed my calves (8x4.5' in Z4). They hurt all night! Feeling better this morning though.

No spoilers I promise That sucks you have to wait that long!

It's rainy and gross here today so I didn't run this morning. Came in to work early so I can maybe leave a little early and get a run in this afternoon.

Pretty sure my weekend plans will not include going to TX anymore. We were flying into Houston on Saturday. It's a bummer, but in the grand scheme of things this is such a minor problem to have. I feel terrible for all the people down there who have been trapped and lost everything. So sad. Nicole, I hope you are holding up down there. I've been thinking of you while watching the news and hope that somehow you did not get the brunt of the storm. Looking forward to hearing from you and hoping you are safe.

Yeah, relative to Houston we're getting a drizzle.

@Nicole (Houston one...  ), hope you're doing OK through this mess.  I seriously can't believe the amount of rain.  It's not even something I can grasp.  We get 3-4 inches here and it's a disaster.

Did 30 minutes on the spin bike, 20 on the treadmill (almost ready to run...), then leg/core work and PT.

2600yds with the masters team this morning. We had a rough start to practice, in that the pool bought new lane lines and they must be about 51m long (i.e., just long enough that they can't be tightened to create straight lines). All the lanes were curved toward the middle and the center lane of the pool was about 1' wide. So, quick switch to short course and away we went.

I had a great brick yesterday afternoon. I'm finally feeling like all the training is coming together! My race is still 4+ weeks out, but I'm feeling good about it.

What's everyone got on tap for today?

That must have been crazy - I have a hard enough time not whacking my hands on the lane lines in the best of conditions.

Planned day off for me, tomorrow is 5:30 AM spin class.  I'm REALLY sore from my lower body and core workout yesterday.  I suppose that's a good thing?

Oh no about the lane lines! What a mess! Glad your training is coming back together though, Gretchen!

I did my regular boot camp this morning (it's my strength training...she kicks our a$$es). I have my first Chemistry lab tonight (I think I told you guys I'm going back to school), so I'm excited/nervous for that.

Got some great news last night though! Because Southwest is just the most amazing airline with the best customer service ever, they switched our flight from Houston to San Antonio at no extra cost (one way flights were pushing $600 when I looked last night). So I still get to do my TX trip. Hopefully it's not too hot for me to get some runs in! Gonna run tomorrow and bike Friday, and we leave Saturday morning.

Hi, all!  Quick check in from Houston!

I fared very well through the storm -- my neighborhood was an "island" for a bit, but I don't think any of us had flood damage in the houses.  We live on a 500 year flood plain (must be 600 year, since this was a 500 year storm).  Had no power for a couple days and had the crap scared out of me for about an eight hour stretch Saturday night going into Sunday morning (with constant tornado warnings blaring on my phone.....hiding out in the bathroom with my two very-freaked-out dogs), but otherwise came out unscathed.

It was a truly helpless feeling knowing that so many people were fighting for their lives, lost their homes, had massive damage to their property, and everything else....and I couldn't do anything to help.  Finally, on Tuesday night, I managed to get to one of the local shelters, picked up tons of laundry, did it overnight, and returned it to them yesterday morning.  It's not a lot, but it was something and I know people appreciated having clean, cozy blankets to sleep on.

The rain finally stopped Tuesday night and we all breathed a collective sigh of relief.  The water levels are receding and people are picking up the pieces.  If anyone would like to aid in the relief effort, we have a virtual race where the proceeds go toward the disaster relief:

https://runsignup.com/Race/VA/Woodbridge/RunForTexas

There are 5k and 10k options.  I hope to never experience something like this again in my life, but seeing people come together was a thing of beauty.

I will sign up for this run as well, and will be running it in TX which just feels very appropriate. Gotta figure out what distance I'm running. Thanks for sharing! I will share on my facebook as well.

I did my first brick this morning! I realized last night that since I'm flying early Saturday I'm going to have to go to Masters tomorrow and still needed to get a run and bike in. Forgot to change my alarm but luckily my body woke me up in time to still get both in. Not sure how far I biked b/c my Strava stopped timing me for some reason. Biked for about 40 minutes though around the park by my house. Ran about 3.5 miles at 8:47 I think.

Hope everyone has a great Thursday!

So glad you're OK - I can't get my head around how much water fell from the sky down there.  A couple of comparisons were "imagine filling a backyard swimming pool, that is a thousand square miles big" or "Imagine dumping the entire Chesapeake Bay onto Eastern Texas".

That was really nice thing for you to do laundry for folks.  Good luck in recovery.

Thank you!  Houston appreciates your contribution!  And it is very appropriate that you get to do it in TX   I wish I could offer up some cool, comfortable weather, but TX doesn't really do that in August

As for laundry, it wasn't something I would have thought of either, but when people started going to shelters (mostly places like recreation centers or churches or any other place that is large enough to house displaced people....not places that normally operate as shelters), they blasted on facebook things that they needed -- which varied from things like garbage bags, diapers, food/water, clean underwear, or for people to do laundry.  I didn't have any of the other things to offer, but I knew I could do laundry, which would help with morale, so I was so happy to be able to DO something!

Masters this morning. It was a tough one. Did some drills, then 6x100 @ on 1:55 followed by 4x100 on 1:50. Then some more drills, then 3 sets of 100 bk, 50 fr fast, 100 fr, 50 bk fast. I'm dragging a bit at work now!

Flight is tomorrow morning! Think I'm going to run at some point tomorrow (maybe wake up early and run before we leave?), and then run my 10k on Monday with a friend down there (although he's probably a bit faster than me).

Happy Labor Day Weekend to everyone!
