Missouri Valley Masters swim organization (MOVY) is looking into have an open water swim race this summer at Longview Lake. They're thinking June and it looks like the best weekend might be June 10-11. The Legend race is June 4 then weekend of June 17-18 is Tinman and KCCC Tri.

The challenge will be number of participants. The cost is likely to be in the $40 range not including a one day USMS license for those that aren't a USMS member.

Distances would most likely be 1/2 mile, 1 mile and 2 mile.

Who here on BT would be interested?

Since it would be at Longview lake, a bike ride could follow as well as a run so could be a nice brick workout day as well.

I'd be interested. I am also not a registered master member and would have to pay the one-day fee. If that fee is over $10, and if I'm being honest, I'm more likely than not to just put that $50+ fee towards another triathlon race.

I think the one day fee might be in the $20 range. Unfortunately putting on Open Water swims is not cheap. There are a lot of requirements governed by USMS which adds to the cost of these races. But that's the type of feedback I'm looking for.

I think if they made that post swim bike ride and run mandatory, timed the whole event, and managed to keep the cost around $60 they could really be on to something.

But as far as potentially useful feedback goes...I'd prefer to see it earlier in the season and would start to think it was too expensive at >$50 unless the Master's swimmers throw a kick-a$$ after party.

I went into the pool area (as this was a pool swim) and got body marked. That's when it hit me that I was there to race - this was not a clinic.

The triathletes really inspired me. I watched them in awe as childlike thoughts went through my head like, "I want to do that!" But then reality set in. “Who are you kidding?

Stroke after stroke, my pace was pulling me out into the middle of the lake quickly. The cover seemed to be getting thicker. But still in the distance, the little boathouse was my lighthouse.
