Garmin 920XT or Fenix 3

 2 |  Subject: Garmin 920XT or Fenix 3I am looking for a Tri watch and am debating between the 920XT (watch only) or the Fenix 3. I found a good deal on the 920XT (under $200), but I don't know if I should spend the extra money on the 920XT Tri Bundle which includes HR monitors or purchase the Fenix 3 as my Tri watch. I will be competing in my first triathlon this year and I am not sure how much use I will get out the HR monitors. Should I be using one during swims? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks! -Chad |

I like the 920 a lot - it just works well for me as a training watch. The Fenix 2 is much better to wear as an everyday watch because of how it looks - I didn't love it as a tri watch. So, if you're looking for just a tri watch you can't go wrong with the 920 and deals can be had on it. As for the HR monitor, I use one for biking and running but not for swimming. I think there are way too many variables (like water temp) that influence your HR in the water and I don't think those monitors are particularly accurate to begin with. If you're interested in a ton of research, check out DC Rainmaker (Ray's) blog/site: He has very detailed reviews of both products you are interested in as well as recommendations. Good luck!
