Subject: RE: Muncie 70.3 Hotel Suggestions? Apart from the Marriot, the closest hotels to the race site get a bit....sketchy.
I think most racers end up in Anderson. The ones in northwest Muncie proper probably aren't really that much closer. There's a bunch of them right on the highway there in Anderson. It's 20-30 minutes from the race site...tops.
And that early in the morning, the only traffic is close to the race and it's all racers.
Book early, the hotels that offer the early breakfast fill up. Also, the Meijer there....a lot of the bagels from the bakery will sell out and you'll wind up with the pre-packaged ones.
There's a church there that is almost right across the street from the transition area that in the past has offered a cheap stay and breakfast. Bring your own sleeping bag and you're sleeping on a floor. Not sure if they still do that or not.
Traffic getting in to the race that morning will be heavy, but they do a really good job of moving people along. They will get very grumpy with people who hold up traffic to let someone out instead of just going and parking. Which is nice.
Some people have said that if you come in from the south on the east side of the lake that the traffic isn't is bad. I was too chicken to try it. Like I said, they do a really good job of keeping people moving.
Also, on the swim.....do the geometry. Line up on the far left of your wave and don't hug the buoy line. It's mathematically shorter than hugging the buoys and less crowded. |
