I went to a seminar several years ago and one of the premier PR firms in the country talked at one of the events. She said you can't control things that happen that hurt your brand but how you handle things makes all the difference in the world. She sited the best example of how to handle PR nightmares as how Tylenol handled things when someone tampered with some Tylenol and kill someone. She they immediately pull everyone of their products off the shelf even though it was not required. They stayed of the market until they came up with tamper-proof packaging. They lost billions with the massive recall.....but they did the right thing....and it saved the brand.

He was just quoting the NYT.   

I can't remember where it was, but somebody found an article from a few years ago where the NYT had a story on WW2 Germany and in it they said he never used Chemical weapons in battle because they were so bad which was Spicers point.  They did talk about him using them in the concentration camps, so they were factually accurate.  
Either way, Spicer did still make a very boneheaded statement.

how is the bill nye segment a pr disaster?  i mean you might not like it but then don't watch his netflix show?  not nearly close to any of these other things mentioned.

I didn't even know Nye had a Netflix show until Tuwood posted the link = PR win.  Don't see me watching it, though.

He's the biggest joke that ever accused oneself of being a scientist and his new science show is the epitome of liberal science today.  He's not even a scientist in the first place, he has a bachelors in mechanical engineering.

On a serious note, the PR disaster part is that it's backfiring horribly on Netflix and on Nye.  His career was always a bit of a joke, but he's massively jumped the shark this time and the internet is ablaze flaming him the past week.

Bill Nye is a joke. He has a bachelors degree in mechanical engineer and worked a couple of years at Boeing before getting a kid's show. And he passes himself off a 'science guy'.

I have a bachelors degree in electrical engineering and worked for Boeing for 27+ years so that pretty much makes me an expert on global warming and all matters of science.

I saw him on TV after the Malaysian airliner disappeared and they bill him a some sort of aviation expert since he had worked at Boeing.

Indeed. Its pretty lame and not very funny, but not even close to the Spicer's and United's problems.

Spent 11 years designing, building and testing the International Space Station. Then spent about 10 years working missile defense as a test engineering working both flight test and ground test. Worked a few years on the 787 program in Seattle and Singapore (during the battery disaster that grounded the fleet), a few other programs too. Most of my time as an engineer but also spend 7 years as a manager.

That's right, I remember you posting of being the first to sleep in the ISS! I was wondering if you had any involvement in the commercial airplane side of things, you do. Looks like you found a good fix on the battery issue. We haven't had any major problems in that area for quite some time now. I've been watching the reliability aspect of the "Plastic Princess" on our computers from afar. We don't fly the 787 into SAT, so unless there are weather diversions, I don't get to play with the airplane much. Really seems susceptible to lighting strikes and there's considerable more down time when it happens in comparison to aluminum fuselage jets.
