 249  |  Subject: brake questionHi all, I recently got a set of wheels for my bike that are slightly wider than the stock ones. I have caliper brakes and when I close the caliper, it is so tight the wheel wont turn. I looked at a couple YouTube vids- and it seemed the best way to widen brake opening was to just adjust the cable length slightly, (lengthen) which I did. This seemed to do the trick. Just wondering, is this the correct way? Anything I am missing? Thanks |

Member 326 | Subject: RE: brake question Yes, this is the correct way. Some brakes also have barrel adjuster right at the brake caliper. Usually a grey knob that you can rotate clockwise or counterclockwise. Rotating this will fine adjust the brake pads closer or further from the rim. So set the brake distance by adjusting the cable length then fine tune with the barrel adjustment. |
