I have been reading all these post about how to gain 30 seconds here and there, buying carbon bottle cages and other, what appeared absurd at the time, upgrades to shave a couple seconds and had no idea what the obsession was about.

Well, I did my first race in 4 years yesterday, a Duathlon, and finished 4th in my age group at 11 seconds from third...so now everything makes sense, ha.

I did managed to pull a 21.5 mph in a 2010 Trek 1.1 with only clip-ons and pedals, it was a nice feeling passing "the cool guys" with the nice bikes ??

Congrats on a nice race! Yep, the little details really matter as the races get shorter. For instance, I know I need to work on speeding up my transitions. Podiums can be gained or lost by how quickly one gets through transitions...especially in the shorter races where every second counts.
