too much zig zag. Felt constricted in the arms and legs in full suit - maybe need to stretch it out a little? Hardly used legs; hardly went any faster than pool. Arms felt like they were flailing more than being smooth. Sighting played a big role in my discomfort.

Do more open water swims to feel more comfortable. Work on sighting drills/techniques.

Forgot to put shoes on clips. Had to stop at end of T1 to put on shoes. Did not wear socks.

Had a gel at turnaround. May have benefited from more calories before the race.

Satisfied with this transition

Loop profile = 1/2 mile flat, 1/4 mile uphill, 1/4 mile downhill.

Go harder on the flats. Not disappointed since my speedwork has been nil due to hamstring injury.

Limited speedwork on run. No interval training on bike.


This race is a GEM! No stone was left unturned in the organization. They will not overdo it with pre-race information; it's a little old school / no-frills that way. The swim course was marked well and accurate, bike course was safe, smooth, and well-marked with volunteers or police at EVERY turn, and run course was well-staffed with volunteers again at every turn. Run is one mile loop with water at the beginning of the loop, a nice hill in the middle, and a nice downhill at the end.
