For the day that is. I ride home, a minimum of 20+ miles with, just shy of 1,000 feet of climbing. So, leaving work at 5:30pm, I like a 4pm cup of joe for "inspiration." The data on whether or not late day coffee affects sleeps seems to be all over the place. And, my sleep in inconsistent to begin with so I'm not sure if coffee that late affects my sleeps. Why bother asking then? Well, there's that "am I getting enough sound recovery sleep" nagging question.

Love to hear your wisdom on this one.

Try skipping the 4pm coffee for a while and see if your sleep is any better?  I typically have some coffee around 3pm and it doesn't seem to keep me up at night.  How my sleep goes depends on many things such as stress levels, ambient temperature, etc.

Me too. And I have tried skipping late afternoon coffee. Thing is, I can knock myself off w/my evening cap. I reckon I should start logging my sleep.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Definitely try tracking your sleep! There's a handy app called Sleep Cycle that monitors via the mic on your phone. I've found it to be pretty interesting - I just have the free version. That would be a good way to track any differences with the caffeine levels. For me, I can't have any coffee past 2 or 3 pm for sure. And even then, only if I'm desperate.

I have a Vivoactive HR which monitors movement. As others have said, not sure what to do w/it as I don't see any patterns. Will check out sleep cycle tonight.

Thanks.

Hmm, maybe a different way of bringing yourself down before going to sleep. Not sure if you've tried meditation or yoga or anything like that, but if not that might be worth a shot.

Hope you figure it out

Ugh, meditation... yet another thing on my list of, I NEED TO DO THIS, things to do. Some day I'll get around to it. Thanks.

I guess I'm one of the rare birds who can have a coffee after dinner and still get to sleep fairly well. There are certain brands that are stronger than others (at least to me) so I watch out for those, but my Dunkin Keurig cups hit the spot :D

I think your response is the reasoning behind my inquiry. Everyone seems to be different.

Thanks.

Everyone will obviously have a different reaction to and tolerance of coffee / caffeine.

I normally stop drinking strong coffee by mid-morning (10:00am), I can drink mild coffee and soda (1-2 / week) late into the day / evening, and still go to bed just fine. I've drank enough coffee and soda throughout my life that I think I'm immune to it, unfortunately.
