Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5:00 and was out the door by 5:30 to get to the race start at 6:15. Got checked in and racked the bike. Had a banana, oatmeal, and coffee.
Event warmup:

None, tried to go for a ride but they wouldn't let me back out since I was already in transition. Lesson learned go for a ride before checking the bike.

Got roughed up on the 1st 2 waves going out. After the water was deep enough, I was able to get a solid swim stroke going. Carried that all the way in. Was feeling very anxious due to having a sore neck and not sure how breathing was going to be effected.

Went out hard on the bike because I knew the wind was low from the south. I was holding about 23-24 on the way out which meant I was going to be 26-28 on the way back. Averaged out to a 24 overall and my fastest tri bike ever! Again, going out in the military has me out after everyone so it was 16 miles of passing which helps make the time go by quickly. Got in a traffic jam of 3 car and 15 rides on the way to the turnaround but was able to break it. Also, had to drop to 5mph as a truck pulled out in front of me and I almost hit it. Open course leads to risk but 6+ people went down on the bike today.
What would you do differently?:

Best tri bike ever, but left nothing in the tank for the run. Lost gu #2 due to a small hop, secure it better.

Pretty standard here too. took a hot shot to prevent muscle cramping and was off.

Went out and though I had a good pace going but was pretty average. I found out that I am pretty reliant on HRM to let me know if I'm working hard enough
What would you do differently?:

Push a little more, spend less time dunking sponges in the tubs to keep cool.

Warm down:

walked up to watch the wife finish the aquabike

What limited your ability to perform faster:

neck was sore, body weight is down to 192 but need to lose a bit more to get under 190

Very well put together race I would go to any of the races that DRC Sports puts on!!
