Hey BT!

6:00am:  :35 minutes on the trainer with HIIT type repeats...yowza!

7:00am:  5X5 strong lift with myself--no one else wanted to get up!

Karen...I had my cortisol levels tested a while ago during HIM training. I always gain weight, specifically belly/side fat, while endurance training and I was trying to get to the bottom of the mystery.  Turns out my body goes into stress mode when I really get into the long cardio sessions and my cortisol stays elevated all day everyday.  So...I've noticed over the summer it's been better but I was still still doing some of those long sessions since I was still training.  Using August to experiment with keeping cardio sessions under 45 minutes or so.

Have a great weekend guys...Steve your race is this weekend?  I get to watch my older daughter play in a softball tournament with her old travel team this weekend...last chance we'll get to watch her play before taking her to college!

Nope, next weekend. Today's an off day for me, thankfully!

Have a great day.

0600: 5 x 300m swim, focused on going smooth, still building endurance base stuff.

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend! I start my taper this weekend, which is exciting - I'm so ready to go race!

Interesting. I struggle to keep my weight up when doing a lot of long sessions and high volume, so maybe my body just thinks this is normal or something. What tends to kick me into stress mode (just guessing based on energy levels and when I've gotten sick or injured, have never confirmed this with lab testing) is a lot of high-intensity stuff, beyond about a tempo pace/effort. I am just naturally kind of a steady-state animal and the line between "sustainably hard" and unsustainable has always been pretty thin for me in all three disciplines--probably more suited to the longer stuff than sprints.

3100m of swimming yesterday, made less than delightful by gardeners gassing up the mowers right outside the pool and the resulting fumes, then I would assume billowing grass pollen added to the mix as well. Sucking air the whole time and headache for a couple hours after. But my pool access is seriously limited this time of year, so had to get it done.
