Subject: 12.4.17 Monday Morning! Good morning BT! Here's to another healthy week! Off day here...and let me tell you after yesterday's adventure, I needed it! My younger daughter Olivia decided to join me on the hike to Hawk Watch yesterday so the two of us plus the dog squad took off around 11am. To the west I could see some pretty dark clouds and my husband mentioned there was a storm coming later in the day but we were heading south so in my mind, I wasn't too worried. The hike up to Hawk Watch starts around 7000 ft. The further up the mountain we got we began seeing snow dustings from previous snow, thought that was pretty cool. Around 8200 feet we started getting snowed on--but it was fantastic, not cold, just beautiful, so up we went. Well, we get to camp at 9,000 feet and realized we were in a full blown blizzard--winds, snow, etc. We kind of poked around camp a bit and then decided we needed to head down. In the short time we were at camp a good 3-4 inches of snow fell totally covering the single track trail! The dogs somehow instinctively knew the trail, switch backs and all, so we basically had to follow them all the way down. Liv was having a blast, but there was a 15 minutes span when we were in thick snow and winds that I was honestly scared we would get lost--everything looked so different covered in snow. But, we made it down just fine--a little cold and wet, but safe and sound! I kept having visions of all the "I Survived" episodes I've seen of people lost in snow storms. I can totally see how that could happen. So, quite an adventure yesterday...I'm good on adventures for a while! Lol! Have a great day BT! |
