Subject: Hello.
For those who don't know me, I'm Alice Foeller, the (now) proud owner and careful steward of BeginnerTriathlete.

Ron and I worked together on and off on the site, and I've been logging my workouts here since 2007(ish).

I have raced at least one triathlon every year since 2000, except for a couple of years when I was pregnant with my wonderful kids. In 2010, I completed a full iron distance race at Rev3 Cedar Point.

The other business I own, in addition to BT, is SiteInSight, a web design and online marketing company. My hope is to bring together my skills and knowledge from these two arenas to carry BeginnerTriathlete into the future.

I have the utmost admiration for what Ron built, and the community that grew up around it. He and I worked on content together, went to a triathlon trade show in Washington D.C. together, and have collaborated on the website quite a bit. Over the past year, he's been showing me the ropes on everything from advertising to user password resets.

I'm beginning to reach out to partners, race directors, vendors and coaches to see how we can build new energy, work together, and keep BT working well as a great resource for triathletes. I feel that we have something really special here in terms of people, tone and resources. Now I've been entrusted with it, and I aim not to let you down.

Please send me feedback and suggestions via the forum or Private Message. I'm not envisioning any huge changes in the near future, but I know there are things we can do to improve.

Welcome Alice,

I remember when you first started logging and your Rev3 journey.

I haven't logged much, but am still around and will contribute as I can.

Thanks for carrying the torch.
All's I can add is that I would not underestimate the number of people who read/visit this "Triathlon Talk" forum, but don't participate.

I know that before I dipped my toes in the triathlon waters (literally and figuratively), I quickly found this place. Because I had found other...slightly similar outlets....I was hesitant to participate. I think you know of which other outlet/outlets I speak. But I READ. And READ. And followed. And pursued outside information that I was exposed to here.

To say my early experience here was invaluable would be a technical overstatement. That being said, because of this site and specifically TT, when the time came for my first race....
-I was physically and mentally ready to accomplish my goals
-My concerns and anxieties about the "logistics of race day" were GREATLY diminished.
-My concerns and anxieties about social mores and etiquette of racing were GREATLY diminished.
-And when I finally worked up the courage to participate and ask a question or two, I was comforted to learn that there are indeed portapotties available at races.

All of this was a significant contributor to my enjoyment in preparing for, and executing my first race. I'm sure I would have had fun and all. But, I would have focused less on the "fun" of the day, and spent more time obsessing about all the other stuff. Bottom line, my first direct impression of participating in a tri was far better because of this place.

Throw in the fact, that a fellow forumite, who I had no prior connection to, loaned me a wetsuit for my first Olympic race? Saving me a couple bucks, but more importantly, a TON of hassle....and most importantly....added to the idea that for most of us, it's just a pursuit of fitness related fun.

I'm sure you see the unique visits and such, but my guess is that there's probably as many (if not, more) people who access data on the site, but do not contribute as those who do participate bi-directionally. Me, I'm pretty confident online and love to muck about and have fun. And while I'm far more confident about the actual triathlon bits at this point, this is my GOTO site. Specifically the TT forum. Because:
-it's fun, and while occasionally...lively, or spirited....it is not dominated by oppressive opinion
-I still regularly pick up positive information.
-I don't have to sift through REAMS of information that does not apply to a weekend warrior like me. Further, I know that when I do need a little more detail on some things as I advance in experience, it's available elsewhere on the site.

Also, I think folks do pretty good job of stopping by the "Introduce Yourself" forum and welcoming new folks. I periodically roll through there and chime in. Nothing worse than introducing yourself and not getting at least a "hi" back. The more we all do that, the livelier the entire site will be.

I have two websites in my life that I consider life changers. Sparkpeople (that was technically invaluable to me in my weightloss effort) and this place. Because of all the reasons outlined above.

Don't care if it sounds a bit maudlin'. I mean it all.
