I would like to raise funds for research on MS but I have not been able to find an equivalent of Team in Training. I did a Google and found a guy from the UK who raised over one-thousand pounds sterling for the cause so I knoe it's possible, but the devil is in the details. How does one go about fundraising via an individual effort in a triathlon?? What does it mean for someone to "sponsor" an athlete? I'd appreciate any input.

Do you want to raise funds with triathlon specifically or are you open to other endurance ventures?  I ask because there is a great event called the MS150.  It is a bike ride from Houston to Austin (they have others around the country, simalar to Susan Komen race for the cure) that you fundraise for MS.  Here is a link to the website.  There is also a way to set up a page on active.com where people can donate money to your charity, but I dont really know much about this.

Good luck in your fundraising!!

I wanted to raise money for the Pediatric Brain Tumor foundation w/ IMKY, but alas it was not included in the Janus Charity Challenge that IM North America does, so I guess I am on my own raising money too. I contacted the charity and they sent me brochures, I am going to send out to friends and family first, then see if I can get a newspaper article. I am using the website www.firstgiving.com (our site is www.firstgiving.com/derricks if you want to check it out!) Beyond that I am still brainstorming ideas on how to get people to sponsor me or just donate. Any ideas from folks would be appreciated!

As long as your organization is a 501 (c) 3 non profit you can raise funds through the Janus program. I did it for IMLP a few years ago and it was great knowing all those people that you helped would be cheering for you. Gave me some inspiration when the going got tough.

It's the logistics, IMKY is put on by World IM foundation, Janus sponsors only the North America series. I was really bummed, I emailed them and they discussed it but said they were going to stick w/ the NA series Ironman races.

I don't think it's actually called World Ironman foundation, but you know what I mean, the other IM company that sponsors all the global ones.

Did you hear from Janus that they were definitely not going to include IM Louisville in their charity challenge? I have been emailing them and the last reply that I got from them is that they "will be making that determination over the next few weeks."

I have looked into Active and FirstGiving and will likely use one of them if Janus is not available. It is a shame because the Janus credit card fees look to be lower than the other sites and the additional contributions from Janus for the top fundraisers are nice.

You can raise funds for any charity you want with Janus Charity Challenge.  I recently raised funds with JCC and IMFL.  You have to do a IMNA event to use Janus tho....its really easy
