Poptarts rule! Toasted if ya can, and frosting and sprinkles are a MUST. They are the best camping breakfast ever!

Best camping breakfast???

I've had them once or twice backpacking (really, I traded them out) where they are passable. I'd put just about any other breakfast item on the list before poptarts.

Best camping breakfast involves eggs, bacon, fried potatoes, and maybe a fresh coffee cake.

(speaking of...anybody know that you can fry bacon and eggs in a paper sack??...it's a fun little demonstration!)

That just takes too long! If you've got a long day of hiking ahead of you, just toss them in your backpack and you're good to go!

Pop tarts vs power bars interesting comparison, I used to be a pop tart addict but gave em up, I have tried toaster strudel (scout camps fried in a fry pan over the fire.... ummm ummmm good) toss up between the two, I like the pastry on the strudel better light flakey....greasy.... but the crumbly texture of a well done pop tart is undeniable.....Uhhh gota go the grocer ah kids are calling.Laughing

I love pop tarts. Love, love, love. Therefore I must avoid them like the plague.

I'm with you!

Frosted Blueberry For ME!!
I had to stop buying them for the kids... I was eating them, they weren't.
Now, they like the Toaster Strudels...I don't like the way they smell...smells greasy....gross.

I. LOVE. POP TARTS.

LOVE!

Frosted Strawberry is my favorite flavor. I used to stop every morning and get them at my local convenience store. Had to eat both of them, of course.

Now, I must avoid them like the plague or I am afraid I could overdose on them.

I take the cookies and cream kind, spread 1/4 inch of peanut butter between two of them and eat them like a sandwitch.

I will fight you over them with the furry of William Wallace , they are my soul, my everthing, and my passion.

Most of my hiking involves scouts, so I can get up, heat coffee, cook breakfast and clean up pack and still be ready before they are.

I could usually trade the poptarts for granola and dried fruit.

It amuses me when people get all righteous about something like pop tarts, but have no problem with power bars or goo on rides or runs.

All of it is terrible stuf if you are using it to take the place of nutritious meals, but Pop Tarts are as good of a sugar source as anything else when you really need some conveniently-packaged calories.

I LOVE POP TARTS and it pretty much takes every ounce of restraint in my body not to purchase them everytime I walk down the cereal aisle at the grocery store. I like the Smores, Brown Sugar, and Choc Fudge ones. However, to me, they're not breakfast, but rather dessert for after eating your real breakfast.

I second that!  My favorites, brown sugar, cherry, blueberry, then strawberry.

I don't want to be a party pooper, and I understand that even though they are pretty gross, they are also somehow indescribably appealling, but Pop Tarts? Partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, high fructose corn syrup, and white flour?!

um - ditto that... plus the cardboard taste and sugar headache bonus
double YUK!
no offense to the pop tart lovers/supporters out there, but it seems ironic that something so junk-foody could be part of an athlete's diet.

Back in the days of HS sports, we would load up at the grocery store on Pop Tarts for the bus ride to and from baseball games. Also use them for Cross Country. Don't forget the instant oatmeal..

That was 20 years ago, I was a teenager and never thought about nutrition (other than the balanced sit down meals we ate every night as a family - then again, I didn't think about that either, it was just what mom provided)

Now I seriously try to avoid them for some of the reasons mentioned above - although on a binge I could still finish off a box and regret it later.

I didn't see anybody mention this earlier in the thread, but has anybody tried them frozen? The brown sugar or chocolate chip cookie dough flavors are awesome after they've been frozen for a while.

The reason I am an athlete is so I can eat junk food!  When I was a couch potato I had to worry about the calories, but now I burn those pop tarts right up.   And the donuts, and the m&m's, and the ice cream......

I would hope you're being facetious. However, if you truly think as an endurance athlete you're immune to the affects of poor eating habits, I suggest you google "Jim Fixx."

Uh-oh! You are supposed to eat them for breakfast??? I had 2 frosted strawberry ones for dinner last night. (and I buttered both of them, because I was raised in Indiana where butter is the staple - goes with corn)

I love Pop Tarts.  I've been having really bad cravings for them, especially the frosted brown sugar and cinnamon ones.  They just seem so bad for you and don't fit into the plan to eat less sugar and processed foods.

I'm a recovering Pop Tart addict myself. 9 years now...
Memories of college breakfast and dinners are filled with Pop Tarts and Ramen noodles.

sounds like my year in Korea.....but of course you have to add beer to that.

What's wrong with Taco Bell? I love s'more pop tarts. And there used to be a vanilla or white chocolate kind that's awesome!

As far as junk food, as long as you don't live solely on the stuff, it won't kill you too quickly! And I, too, train so I can eat a wider and more calorie-laden variety of food on occasion.
