I have often mentioned in my logs and RR's the use of the worlds greatest breakfast POP TARTS! I want people to sound off on their feelings - or anything.

This breakfast of champions started when my brothers and I played Gus Macker Badketball Tourneys and need a quick yet light yet energetic food - In came Pop Tarts. The very first time we ate these, we won our bracket and have Golden Gus's to prove it. That was in 1995, the rest is history.

I wonder if PopTarts would sponsor a team!!!???!!?!?!?!?!

My kids would be card carrying team members. I'm afraid I treat them like potato chips. I can't stop at just one. So I do not indulge. Will stick to my breakfast of champions - Peanut Butter Toast!!

I normally try to avoid them, but lately I've had quite the taste for those High fructose corn syrup laden things. Sad to say, but I love pop tarts, especially the frosted sprinkle ones.

I'm a recovering Pop Tart addict myself. 9 years now...
Memories of college breakfast and dinners are filled with Pop Tarts and Ramen noodles.

Recently, I found a frosted cinnamon pop tart breakfast bar.  Just like a pop-tart but like a thicker, but narrower bar shape.  They made tasty snacks to take on longer bike rides.  Not much nutritional value, but they were a good dose of sugar and simple carbohydrates when that was what I needed.

Ahhhh yes... keep buying those Pop Tarts people, said the lady from the Breakfast Capital of the Universe. (We don't eat them, but only because I can down a whole box before we even get home from the grocery store.)

Imagine doing your training rides where the air is heavy with the scent of strawberry pop tarts.
Or running trails where every inhale is of cocoa krispies. Or, on bad days, burned cocoa krispies.

I know pollution could be a whole lot worse, but I sure do walk around feeling hungry alot.

I don't want to be a party pooper, and I understand that even though they are pretty gross, they are also somehow indescribably appealling, but Pop Tarts? Partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, high fructose corn syrup, and white flour?!

Pop tarts of yummy. BUT...be careful children, they are very, very flammable. Don't toast them too long.

I like a raw blueberry poptart myself. A true classic. Thankfully (!) they are in the vending machine at work, so I don't need to buy a whole box.

I once toasted a PopTart for too long and burned the roof of my mouth when I bit into it. That kind of killed the romance for me.

What keeps me from eating the raw ones is the terribly high calorie content - I'd rather have a slice of chocolate cheesecake. But bringing them on bike rides is a darn good idea.

Here's from an article comparing powerbars to poptarts.   Not much difference and guess which tastes better?

"PowerBar Performance's stats sound good on the wrapper: 230 calories (only 25 of which come from fat), 20 grams of sugar, and 100% of the recommended daily allowance (RDA) of vitamins C and E. However, a low-fat Pop-Tart and vitamin deliver identical benefits with 40 fewer calories--for less than 35 cents. And nutrients and vitamins aren't absorbed by the body any better when they come from a bar instead of a pill, says Nancy Clark, nutritionist with the American Council on Exercise."

About 12 years ago, my dad did a contract gig for Kelloggs in Battle Creek.  He would send me a huge box of pop-tarts every couple of months.  Yum!

These day, though, I watch what I eat and try to avoid highly processed food like that, but every now and then I have random cravings for the Maple & Brown Sugar kind.  Fortunately, I don't usually shop anywhere where they carry them.  Thank heavens!

Trader Joe's has a version that's pretty good, though.  We took some of the blueberry kind when we did The Relay last year, and they were a hit.  Great for easy energy.

But on the whole, I can't have stuff like that.  It doesn't work with The Plan (my daily food routine) because they have too many empty calories.  And if they have HFCS then they've already been permanently banned from the house.  I'm pretty strict about what we buy.  Even Coke has to get a special dispensation -- Eric has to promise me that it's going in Rum & Cokes, or he's using them to clean the toilets.

That said, if you like them and they work for you... enjoy!

I see PopTarts are like Kellog's Frosted Flakes - everyone eats them, but adults don't come out in public to admit it. Thank goodness we have sites like this for PTA (PopTartsAnonymous) I am part of the Brown Sugar Cinnamon Branch - the others are good, but this is the king.

So what about the caloric count, I burn it anyway. I need the calories where I can get them. I actually have the great problem of trying to maintain weight. At 6'8 I should be between 220-230lbs, check my logs I am barely on the bottom level of the scale and trust me I EAT A TON! So every little facet of the PopTart fits my nutrition plan - eat anything!

Best camping breakfast???

I've had them once or twice backpacking (really, I traded them out) where they are passable. I'd put just about any other breakfast item on the list before poptarts.

Best camping breakfast involves eggs, bacon, fried potatoes, and maybe a fresh coffee cake.

(speaking of...anybody know that you can fry bacon and eggs in a paper sack??...it's a fun little demonstration!)

I LOVE POP TARTS and it pretty much takes every ounce of restraint in my body not to purchase them everytime I walk down the cereal aisle at the grocery store. I like the Smores, Brown Sugar, and Choc Fudge ones. However, to me, they're not breakfast, but rather dessert for after eating your real breakfast.
