Subject: Weightloss Challenge

I'm workin over a little idea in my head for a new year's challenge for CT (and whoever else comes to our board and is brave enough to post)...

What if we do our own little "Biggest Loser" contest? Whoever has the biggest percentage of weight lost at the end of ? weeks/months wins. We'll come up with a prize of some sort- could be monetary, could be good or services, could be nothing! I headed up a Biggest Loser contest at work this past spring and it was fun and the winner got something like $350. Personally I need to drop some pounds before Mooseman, and I know there are others out there with some weightloss goals, so are any of you with me on this one?

I viewed, but I am out for this one. Willing to place bets on who will be the winner, though.

I bet Rob's lurking right now but we know the guy can't pass up a challenge.  I'm guessing he'll be in.

Well, it is true that I do need to lose some a lot of weight. But I don't want to get involved in another smackdown, so I'll just have to go this one on my own.

My $ is on Aaron though.

This isn't a smackdown...just a "support group" with a little incentive and a little extra motivation. I know if I have to share my % of loss/gain every week I am going to think a little harder about what goes in my mouth. We're all friends here. The purpose is to help each other, not beat each other.

No smackdown, no head to head challenges.  Just personal, individual challenges with the  encouragement, support of friends.  I have no intentions of going head to head on weight loss with anyone in particular.  However, any motivation I can get to focus more on diet will help.  I think I'm one of those "I train so that I can eat" people.

Me too. But then I eat too much and train too little, so my plan doesn't always work .

Polly,

Stop and think about the people that you proposed this challenge to before you say they suck... Most of them are SKINNY FKers who don't need to lose weight, or they have so little to lose they wouldn't win the challenge.

The only other person who should have joined this challenge--not that I'm saying you, Pam, or Aaron need to lose some weight--was me. So, I "SUCK!"

Damn, I guess the Dr. was right; these meds do make me irritable, and hungry too. I'm going to go get something to eat…

Interesting point my steroid-popping friend, BUT, after talking to some people and reading other people's blogs, I know there are several of us out there looking to shed some weight. Some of the thinner people only have a few pounds to go, but it's harder for them to lose just a couple pounds compared to someone who needs to lose 20. That's why this would be based upon percentage of weight lost and not total number of pounds lost. Even that isn't scientific, because we're also building muscle, but it's the best I could come up with.

The new year is traditionally a time to make resolutions, and I thought it might be nice if we kicked it off with a friendly challenege to help each other get crankin.

I think if you changed it to just meeting a goal, it might work better. I know I could never lose enough percentage-wise to have a chance. But if my goal was to lose four pounds and I met that, then I could "win". Or my goal could be to reach a certain body fat percentage.

We could all contribute to a fund and then those who met their goals at the end could split the winnings. Another benefit is there isn't just one winner. Everyone who succeeds in losing the weight gets something out of it (other than losing weight)

Good point Danielle. I'm open to suggestions on how we do this. We don't even have to make it a contest- we could just set goals and track our progress, exchange tips and recipes, and offer support etc. Anyone else have any ideas?

Okay, Polly, any interest in kickin' this off?

I've spoken to a few of the locals and there seems to be a common theme: "I need to loose some weight!"

Personally, I’m not looking for a SmackDown, just some support…

I was interested in kicking this off 2 months ago , but you know what? I haven't lost any weight and Moose is getting closer, so let's do this.

Once again, who is interested?

umm, i'll play along just because I can't say no to anything — which is why I am running a marathon in February north or an already cold location where there is wind even on a good day

planning on eating my way through NYC for the next 2 days, so I will start when i get back

Well, I'm a whopping 200lbs right now. HOLY CRAP!!!

I'd like to get down to 165-170 for LP because I just don't want to carry that extra weight around for 15+ hrs.

I'm pretty much looking for some support and accountability--I don't want to have to come in here and say, "I ate a pint of ice cream last night."
