Hi all!

I completed my first tri Thursday night! First half mile of the run my calves started cramping up, but I was able to run through it. Well, they have been pretty tight and sore since. I have spent a large portion of today icing and stretching them (the olympics on TV made it tolerable).

They are still somewhat sore, though. Anyone have any suggestions on what to do? It's been two days and I would really like to get out and do something tomorrow.....

Dam racing it does that to me all the time

Enjoy the pain.

Try some aspercreme.  That stuff really works!

That happened to me too, more stretching and ensuring I am hydrated enough is my plan for the next one...

Agree with the need to hydrate. Also, make sure your potassium and magnesium levels are up before your next race. There are many products out there to help. This can help reduce cramping.

Arnica gel or cream is good to massage into muscles and bruises. It's found in Health Food stores.

Hope this helps!

You might think I'm nuts, but I go for a medium intensity walk. Enough to make my calves move a little...something about the walking motion reallly seems to loosen them up without overdoing it.

Helps a ton! I actually went to the store and bought some aspercreme, and that's helped. (although I smell like a walking medicine cabinet).

And you're right, the walking has been a major help too. It's been four days and finally they are feeling better.
