It seems crazy since it is Feb. 2007 but since Ironmans have gotten so popular that you basically have to sign up on race day the year before when does the tentative schedule for 2008 Ironmans come out? I have heard the IMAZ is moving to later in the season which makes me wonder what IM will be early in the year? I want to do an Ironman in the US early in 08 so I want to make sure I dont miss the sign ups...

I'm planning to do Eagleman 70.3, and worried about the same thing.  I e-mailed the RD and she told me the exact date that registration opens.

IMAZ will not be moved up... from what I understand.

IMAZ 07 happens in April. IF it were going to be changed to the Fall... then it would happen Fall 07. The "experts" have told me that they can't announce an IM in April 07 and run it Fall of 07.

So for now, it looks like IMAZ will stand in April 08 as well. So, you can make IMAZ early in the season for 08.

From what I heard, IMAZ does not fill up as quickly as say... Florida. They said it takes a good couple of months. Which makes sense, as most people who live in a state with a winter season do not want to train through winter.

I posted a thread in the Ironman Forum about when to register for IMAZ 08 and they said that it doesn't open the day after the event... but there were conflicting opinions on that.

Read this thread for all the details:

If you want to do an IM race should you try for everyone or just try for the one you want and any ones past it if you do not get in?

Eagleman takes about a month to fill up, no sweat there .........

You should sign up for the one you want and the one that fits your training schedule.  To guarantee the spot, go onsite and register the day after the event in person, or have someone who is going to be there sign you up.  Taking your chances with Active can be a crap shoot, so if you want to risk your luck, do it that way.

I am thinking about Moo because its closer to home and it might be worth going up there for Moo this year just so I can do it next year. be cheaper to drive up to madison twice then to fly once to florida I think

People in colder climates can't train as well for it so it takes a little longer to fill up.

Exactly.

IMAZ is a great race... if you don't have to do your 20 week of IM training indoors.
