Pre-race routine:

First marathon and used to gauge my run for IMAZ. Farthest I ran was 15 miles in training.

Drank 2 ensures a couple of hours before, one gatorade and one gel around 15 minutes before.

Used the bathroom (number 1) 2 times...lines were horrendous.
Event warmup:

None.
Run
  • 5h 07m 53s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 11m 45s  min/mile
Comments:

It got pretty hot early. Aid stations were ok but not as much stuff as a triathlon. Did not cramp the whole time except when I took a #2 at mile 17 and when I tried to stand back up, I cramped.

Overall, I'm happy with my run.
What would you do differently?:

Put in training runs that are longer.
Post race
Warm down:

None. Icing my shins are now.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training.

Great job persevering in extremely difficult conditions. Brutal temps out there (downtown high of 82 at 12:30 with 6-8 percent humidity). I felt totally sucked dry by mile 13. Made it to 13.1 in 1:55 before things completely blew up. Walked every inch of miles 20-26 wondering if I would be going home in an ambulance. Final time of 4:54:06. I'll put my report up tomorrow.

Congrats on your first marathon. A 5 hour marathon in hot conditions is comparable to my 4 hour in cold. Good luck with your continued training for IMAZ.
