Anybody live in St. Pete interested in group training?...well, doesn't really have to be a group. I live in the Old NE neighborhood of downtown St. Petersburg and would love to meet some people interested in training. I no longer have my training partner in my life and I am finding it difficult to keep myself motivated and disciplined without the support of someone else to regularly train with.

Chris, we might be doing an OWS sometime next week. We train mostly over here in Tampa and you are more than welcome any weekend!

Chris,

Are you familiar with the St Pete Mad Dogs triathlon club? I know a couple of people from St Pete and they speak highly of the club and their training groups. I wish there was an organized tri club like that here in Tallahassee. Here is the link to their website. Check out The Finish Line (monthly newsletter) and the Calendar links at the top of the page.

I appreciate the invite. I'd be interested in the OWS if you wouldn't mind letting me know when/where. I'm interested in any other training you might be doing as well. Where in Tampa do you usually train?

I am familiar with the Mad Dogs. I've checked out their website and even sent an email to them about membership. I never received a response though. From what I read on their site, I am under the impression that you have to have completed a Tri before joining up with them. I haven't done a tri yet. My first will be at Ft. De Soto Apr. 14.

Yes, you have to have done at least one triathlon to be a Mad Dog, but you'll have that licked in two weeks.

We usually train all over town.  Bike at Flatwoods, or the Suncoast Trail, or sometimes up north a bit at the Withlacoochie.  Rarely do a ride or run on the Pinellas Trail but I usually avoid it because of the road crossings.  OWS's have been on the Dunedin Causeway, on the Courtney Campbell, and a few other places.  I'd be up for an OWS some time in St. Pete too.  We run pretty much anywhere, so any time we plan on a training group, we'll let ya know.

By the way, is your avatar from the SPB Classic?  I ran the 5K there this year and paced friends in the 10K and the 1 mile.  It was a really fun race.

Yeah, that pic was from the SPB Classic. That was my first race ever. It was at the beginning phase of my half-marathon training. I've done four races since that 5k, and it still reigns as the most fun. The entire event just seemed to be really well put together. Had a great time.

I'm really hoping to get a chance to do a swim or two with somebody before next weekend's race. I won't be around this weekend, as I'll be at my Dad's on the east coast for Easter, but I was hoping to have the chance to meet up with someone next week...early evening. Maybe St. Pete Beach?

Jess and I will be in Tempe for IMAZ, but there are a bunch of other Tampa BTers out there who might be able to hang out next weekend.  There's a race at Fort DeSoto next weekend as well, so maybe some peeps will be out there...you might wanna check that out too.

If you're referring to the Escape From Ft. DeSoto April 14....I'm doing that one. My first tri. All the more reason I was hoping to get a couple good open water swims in with someone who has some tri experience.

I'll spread the word for ya.  Good luck at Escape!  It was supposed to be my first one in 05, but I missed it due to traveling.  But I did do that one last year, it was a blast...but the last part of the run is all sand, so be prepared!  The swim won't be bad, it's an along-shore swim, so you'll be fine.  Of course, Fort DeSoto is a wind tunnel (check out my RR on the Fort DeSoto race I did on 3/17) but just keep your head down and get on thru it.  You'll have a great time!

I can check, but I might be able to swing an OWS this weekend if things aren't too crazy.  I'll check with the BT peeps as well and see if that's possible.

Damn, this weekend I'll be over in Stuart with family for Easter. Actually, If someone can do something Saturday morning, that might work...then I can just head over to the other coast afterwards. I'd have no problem with that.

While on the St Pete subject.  I have a meeting to attend first week of May in St Pete at the Hilton at 950 Lake Carillon Drive.  I have to be a sloth during the day and socialize during the evenings but would like to get out and run some while I'm there.  If it's possible I'd even bring my tri-bike over to ride! So what's located around the hotel?

Chris-- We are doing an OWS on Saturday (4/7/07) at 730 am, followed by a run.  Matt (the owner of Tri 3 Racing in Clearwater) is leading it up.  He's a great coach and help!!  Feel free to pm me if you want further info.

Donto,

There is the Gandy Bridge which is pretty close to where you are staying.

It is a 2.6 mile bridge closed to traffic and for use exclusively for bikers, joggers, ect.

Don-
Hit me up, I'll run/bike the Gandy with ya, I'm gonna be training for Wickham Park so I can pick your brain about the course while we run.

Chris-
I'm probably gonna do that swim/run out in Clearwater along with Wendi.  Come join us before you head out to the East Coast!
