Subject: PEANUTS AS PART OF NUTRITION

I've read several articles that promote eating peanuts as part of my daily food intake. What type of peanuts should I eat: how many should I eat: and how often should I eat them?

"What type of peanuts should I eat" I like roasted peanuts, with reduced salt, if possible. I LOVE boiled peanuts, however, and always gaze longingly at huge roadside kettles overflowing with that slimy, salty goodness. Oh, if only Hubby would stop the car ...

"how many should I eat" How many can you restrict yourself too? Seriously, though, check the serving size on the package and stick with that.

"how often should I eat them?" Again, how often can you not eat them?

I love peanuts, but I get most of my intake through natural peanut butter (peanuts and salt and nothing else) on daily pbj sandwiches. Watch out for regular peanut butter because some fools have decided to add partially hydrogenated oils, which contain trans fats.

Also, if given the choice, I prefer to get peanuts still in the shell to avoid the extra salt and give me the fun of cracking them open.

I eat peanuts and almonds regularly, but try to limit it to no more than a 1/4 cup(a small handfull) a day (roughly 200 calories).

I have no idea about their health benefits other than I feel better eating them because I love them. There is a good article here about nuts: http://www.askmen.com/sports/foodcourt_100/100_eating_well.html
