Subaru Women's Sprint in Naperville (Page 2)

Okay - just throwing this out there to start getting an idea of who's coming and when and whatnot.  Feel free to chime in with changes/modifications/out-and-out refusals-because-you-don't-like-my-plans...

11am:  for anyone interested, meet up at Centennial Beach to swim
1pm:  meet up at expo, pick up packets, mill around
2pm-ish: walk to Mongolian BBQ for lunch (I can make reservations... with it being mid-afternoon, that might not be an issue).

I live in the area, so if anyone is NOT in the area and staying at a hotel I'd be happy to pick them up if they didn't want to navigate Naperville.

 That sounds like a great plan.  I know that I can be there by 1 at the expo but I will need to ask McFuzz if we can leave early enough to get to the beach by 11.  So far he is the only family member coming. Is the expo and the beach within walking distance of each other?

The expo, beach and Mongolian BBQ are all within walking distance of each other.  You can either park at the expo and walk from there, or even park at Centennial beach and leave your car there.  Everything is within probably a square mile of each other.

And as far as swimming goes, when the time gets a little closer, I'll check to make sure that it'll be open and all that fun stuff.  At that time of the day, I believe it'll cost $10 to get in (unless you live in Naperville).

I was also wonderin' about the the bike route.  On the map, just past Jefferson and Eagle, there appears to be a hill.  Just about the area where the turnaround will be.  Do you know anything about that hill?  Is it a lungbuster or is it just a "regular" hill like we all have at home?

Also,  would be better off meeting later in the afternoon for an early dinner and stay at the expo 'til it closes at 3? that way it would give us more time to attend the different course talks and, of course, to mingle/shop!!!

To use the term "hill" for anything on the bike course would be a bit of an overstatement.    Really - it's an incline, not too much more.  Out around the stretch along 75th St. is a little up and down too, as I recall.  Still - overall - an incredibly flat course.

Mongolian BBQ sounds good.  If we eat around 2, SOME of us will want to eat again around 7-8?  Any BT'ers interested in dinner too? 

I know that lunch-ish time (2 is great!) would be pretty doable for me, dinner won't be for sure.... not sure how others feel?

Went and swam at Centennial Beach last night... water is warm(ish) and murky, just like always.  Lap lanes were somewhat full, but still more than enough room to manuever.  After the swim, my friend and I ran the 5k run course, which -- as I remembered -- is pretty flat and fast, like the rest of the course.  (and then we refueled)

I'm planning on doing the same thing next week, shooting for Tuesday again.  I'll most likely be out there sometime after 5pm to take advantage of the $3 entry fee (otherwise it's $10) if anyone is interested in joining me.

So - it's still looking like meeting at 1pm at the expo and lunch around 2-ish works for most people?  And then possibly dinner plans for those hoteling it in town?

Our goal is to roll into Naperville around 11 (OK that is my goal but I'm supre excited and jsut as nervous).  Swimming after 5 and saving $7 sounds good to me.  Maybe we can arrange a short twilight swim.  We are staying at the Best Western  on Naperville Rd.  Any ideas how far that is from the expo and race site??

As we get closer we might want to PM phone numbers to each other in order to find each other. 

PM-ing phone numbers would be a good idea, probably.  And I'll see about restaurant reservations as soon as we get a headcount of sorts next week.

Sorry - I actually meant swimming at 5pm on Tuesday of next week.  I think that by 5pm on Saturday the pool will probably be closed?  I will call next week to find out for sure, though.  That's why I was planning on swimming probably in the morning.

You are about 10-20 minutes from race/expo/downtown Naperville, depending on traffic (downtown Naperville can get somewhat congested... which is why it's easiest to park once and walk, if possible).  It'll be an easy drive on race morning.  And there's a fair amount of street and lot parking (I usually park in the library parking lot), so that usually isn't a problem.

Hey you guys! I'm in too... However, I'm NOT up for Mongolian BBQ the day before this race. No sireeeeeeeee. Nothing spicy, strange, or the least bit foreign will pass these lips. I have a rather sensitive stomach and digestive track. I'm going to be in an all out anaerobic frenzy on Sunday, so I don't want to puke or (God forbid) poop unexpectedly!

I'm looking at lunch @ Noodles, probably... downtown Naperville.

Yes. This bike course is very flat. Stay to the right. Passing on the left. This is very important as it's very congested as well.

I can handle that!  I know I swam Saturday morning last year, just not sure when they closed the place to start setting up for Sunday.  I'll be there Tuesday, so I'll see if anyone there has any idea.

I'm pretty sure it'll be $10, assuming that by 5pm they'll be closed (that's when the rates go down to $3 for non-residents).

But - more conclusive information coming soon!

But count me out for the BBQ. My step mom and my grammy are coming with me (maybe my sister too) and my step mom doesn't eat that stuff.

There have been a couple of people express a desire to NOT have Mongolian BBQ.  Are there any other places they can go while walking with us?  AND  does the BBQ have other things besides spicy foods?  I'm not a fan of spicy things so I thought I'd ask.

about Mongolian BBQ....... here is how it works: you grab a bowl, go to the first station, pick out you raw meat or fish, next station has all kinds of veggies and noodles, then you can add spices and sauce *if you want*... then they grill it for you with oil....and throw in your sauce in the end.  The one time I ate there, I picked a very mild sauce and didn't even taste it... some people just ask for food to be grilled with just a little bit of oil, so it does not have to be spicy at all.... and then at the table they serve rice and tortillas (and they also have a salad bar).

 If there are people who are totally opposed to the Mongolian place, we can totally go somewhere else, but my impression of the place was that it wouldn't be a dangerous pre-tri place to eat (and yes, I have the same concerns about the nervous bladder as the best of you LOL)...
